The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has disputed the Zamfara State Police Command’s claim that its joint security team overpowered some bandits who attacked security operatives in the state.

The spokesperson for the police command, Muhammad Shehu, had said that on October 28, a joint police and civil defence team deployed along Kaura Namoda–Shinkafi Road were ambushed by suspected bandits who came in a large number.

According to the police, which had sought to downplay the bandits’ attack, after several hours of engaging the bandits in a gun duel, “some of the assailants were neutralised while others escaped with possible gunshot injuries.”

However, narrating what happened, the NSCDC said the bandits, numbering about 150 and with “heavy weaponry”, had “engaged operatives in exchange of fire.”

NSCDC spokesperson, Ikhor Oche, noted in the statement that the team of the joint security forces was overpowered even after it got reinforcement.

“All the same, one of the NSCDC personnel, a driver, was killed while other officers had to run for cover. The bandits set the vehicle ablaze along with corpse of the personnel, and while returning to Shinkafi, one personnel also got missing.

“During NSCDC’s search, the missing person was found dead and right now his corpse is on its way to Maru, his hometown. This brings to two, the number of NSCDC personnel that died in the attack. I cannot ascertain the extent of what happened to men of the other security agency, but it equally recorded losses,” the spokesperson stated.

SaharaReporters had on Friday reported that bandits killed at least 20 operatives of the Nigerian security agencies in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State after which the bandits set their corpses on fire.

The security operatives had been sent to a village where bandits had been ravaging for a long time without any security stoppage.

The bandits had reportedly ambushed the security operatives, killed a score of them and set the corpses on fire in the early hours of Friday.

Among the victims was Alhaji Shehu Mallami, a resident of the community.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Aminu Mary, had confirmed the attack, saying that the state commandant of the corps already left to the scene to ascertain what really happened.

Why not declare this bandits terrorist and solicit for foreign military, if you know that you are not indirectly sponsoring them to caise carnage in this country.

Hence all agencies of government compete to out do themselves.Any wonder the insecurity is not abating? The most refreshing aspect of the Buhari presidency is the frankness of its dishonesty.

I'm sure this NSCDC spokesman must have gotten a job elsewhere or probably has a jakpa plan because PMB and his team of failures will definitely get him sacked or demoted.

You can't be telling the truth to the press in Nigeria as a uniformed officer. If the evidence tabled before you are so glaring that you just have to admit and say the truth as civil servant, then tell them you'll get back to them. Decline calls or SMSs and never get back to them. That's how they do it here but this my guy go dey talk truth

NSCDC Loses Two Operatives during Gunbattle with Zamfara Bandits

On the 28th October 2021 at about 12:00 hours , a group of armed bandits invaded a location at Shinkafi/ Kaura Namoda Road Zamfara State where about 5 of our Officers were on a Joint Taskforce Operations.

At the process TWO( 2) of the officers of NSCDC Zamfara State Command were killed by the bandits after a prolonged gun battle while scores of the bandits were neutralized by the officers.

It is unfortunate that we lost these brave and gallant officers. The corps however is poised to carry out her duties and support the Government of Zamfara State in combatting crimes.

Please, I therefore call on general public to disregard this mischief maker that pens unfounded stories and rumours.
Our condolences to the families that lost these two gallant officers.

ZAMFARA POLICE COMMAND REFUTES DAILY POST REPORT ON KILLING OF 20 SECURITY OPERATIVES BY BANDITS ALONG SHINKAFI ROAD.

URGES MEDIA TO VERIFY INFORMATION BEFORE REPORTING.

The attention of Zamfara State Police Command has been drawn to misleading report published by Daily Post Online, that “no fewer than 20 operatives of Nigeria Security agencies have been reportedly butchered in Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State and bodies set ablaze by the notorious bandits operating in the state”.

The Command wishes to state that, the report was inaccurate, and was published by the said media in an attempt to create fear and panic into the minds of the citizens.

What happened was that, on 28th October 2021, Joint Police /Civil Defence Operatives deployed along K/Namoda – Shinkafi Road to stem the tide of banditry, kidnapping and other heinous crimes were ambushed by suspected armed bandits who came in large number. The operatives who were always at red alert engaged the hoodlums to an extensive gun duel that lasted for hours. Some of the assailants were neutralised while others escaped with possible gun shot wounds. Unfortunately, A Police Operative and two (2) Civil Defence Personnel paid the supreme price and their corpses were evacuated and burried accordingly.

The Commissioner of Police while deploying reinforcement of Police Tactical operatives to the area, reiterates the continuous commitment and resilience of the Police to rid the State of all activities of criminal elements.

In view of the above, the Command urges members of the public to ignore the outrageous number reported by the Daily Post Online, and continue to be security conscious while going about their legitimate business.

Similarly, Media organisations are also enjoined to always verify information from appropriate authority before publication.
