Good day Nairalanders in the house. Actually, this is my first time of making a post in nairaland, tho i've been reading and following up threads as it was been introduced to me by a friend many years ago. Its been great all these times. Thanks much.

The essence of my making this post is actually to make inquiry, seek advise and also be guarded about some issues relating to my academic. I'm 21+, i'm a Cross Riverian tho I reside in Akwa ibom state (mom's state) and had finished secondary education some years ago and i've been aspiring to become a medical doctor right from infancy and now that i'm grown i've realised the real profession my heart is passion-drowned for, specifically, that's the dermatologist. I'm so in love with this profession and i actually wanted taking up jamb for grabs this year but now discovering that University of uyo doesn't offer the course. Please I want a guard on which institution i should go on to study dermasurgeon at its full and considering practicals and finances in Nigeria.

Good evening clema! I admire your enthusiasm towards becoming a skin care taker. However, dermatology is a branch of medicine and surgery that deals with the study of the skin, nails and hair and the diseases that invade these regions. Dermatologists are already specialized doctors. This means you'd have to finish studying medicine and surgery first and then you can specialize in dermatology during your postgraduate studies which is called "residency".

You must do medsurg(6years) in nigeria before you begin your residency program where you now become a specialist in your desired field( dermasurgery) which will take you another 5 years or so.. I'm also aspiring to be neurosurgeon

Before you write jamb for about three times, and other factors; you'd have been in your mid twenties. My advice for anyone who wants to study medicine in Nigeria, is to start taking jamb from 17 years of age. So that it you don't make it once, age is still in your side to go for it some more times.
