X X X was intended to represent kisses. Xs are used to represent kisses in other parts of the world too, but British people seem to use them particularly often.

X X X simply means kisses, in an totally innocent way. Three kisses means he’s pretty keen on you - the minimum for kindness and affection would be one.

It’s very common in British texting. It has nothing whatsoever to do with “X X X” porn.

Most notably, they may add an x at the end of a message even to people they don’t know especially well – I’d say it’s the written equivalent of hugging someone when you meet with them.

Almost everyone does it with their family; most people do it with friends; many people do it with acquaintances and colleagues; a few people do it with strangers.

It’s perhaps more common from women than men. To some extent the number of xs correlates with the degree of affection, much like the length of a hug.

But don’t make assumptions. If a British person adds xs after their name in a text, it doesn’t necessarily indicate a desire to actually kiss you in person, any more than a hug on meeting indicates a desire to hold you all night long.
