It was an atmosphere of funfair at Okobo Local Government Secretariat on Monday as council chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in recognition of his contributions to the development of the local government bestowed an award of merit on the council’s Chairman, Hon. Dr. Sylvester Attah as Staff Friendly Chairman.

The council boss was honoured alongside other awardees during the February Edition of the council's monthly Solemn Assembly held on Monday, February 14, 2022 at the Council Hall, Okopedi.

Receiving the award, the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Sylvester Attah, who thanked the people of Okobo and Governor Udom Emmanuel for giving him the opportunity to serve and responding to the needs of people of the areas, said the local government workforce was instrumental to all he had achieved, saying; "to whom much is given, much is expected".

He appreciated the workers for honouring him and for their support to his administration and pledged sustained efforts in achieving more results;

The Chairperson of NULGE in the council, Comrade (Mrs.) Enang Oyo, while presenting the award commended the council chairman for his harmonious relationship with the union.

She said the award presentation is the union’s way of appreciating the hard work and commitment of staff that deserve it, which according to her, it is also a way of seeking the support of the present administration for improved welfare.

“The award is presented to staff who distinguished themselves in character, hard work, punctuality, socialisation, discipline and dedication to duties.”

"for our chairman, he is a caring father who always check on his children. I have seen chairmen, this one I have never seen ". She said the staff merit award cut across all the departments and sections of the council Area.

Speaking at the event, Head of Service for Okobo Local Government Council, Comrade Kingsley Akpan, who received the "Most Versatile Head of Service of Okobo Local Government", lauded the NULGE leadership for her ingenuity, taking cognisance of the fact that government cannot do it alone, assuring the staff of improved welfare.

Speaking on behalf of the Awardees, Mrs Rosanna Udota, Director of Administration who also received "Staff Friendly Director", thanked the NULGE for the honour done to them, while pledging their continuous support to the Dr. Attah's led administration, which she said they are proud to be associated with.

In his goodwill message, the Vice Chairman of Okobo, Hon. Deacon Asuquo Koffi who described the award of the council chairman as deserving, enjoined the political class and the local government workforce to synergize in increasing productivity of the local government.

In attendance at the February Solemn Assembly were himself the Executive Chairman of Okobo Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Sylvester Attah, Vice Chairman, Rt. Hon. Asuquo Edet Koffi; Secretary of Council, Mr. Patrick Oyoh; members of Okobo Local Government Legislative Council led by the Leader, Hon. Anthony Uya; Head of Service - Okobo, Mr. Kingsley Akpan; Directors, Staff of the council, Political class, technocrats, Clergies from different denominations, especially Pastor Mfon Bassey of Power of Gold Oron who gave spirit-filled exhortation; Rev. Emmanuel George council chaplain and Pastor at Royal Power of God as well as community leaders from all the ten wards in Okobo Local Government Area and beyond, among others.
