Rabunzel and the Duke were having a great life together and much love was shared with one another. However, the Duke never told her about a promise he made with the White Wizard until the day the White Wizard came knocking. On the Duke’s last mission, he made a deal with the White Wizard that if the White Wizard would protect his troops in the mission, he would come with him over the Rainbow Bridge.
The day was shady and cold; the mission would be hard and the Duke may lose his troops.

The White Wizard appeared and the Duke said, “If you protect my troops during this mission and have them return safely to their homes, I will serve you when you need me.” Of course the White Wizard accepted. How could the Wizard refuse? After all, the Duke was the bravest of them all and the most honorable in his missions. He was always thinking of others.

The mission went well and all of the soldiers, including the Duke, found themselves back home safely. As you know, the Duke found Rabunzel and fell in love. Unfortunately, only after a short time with Rabunzel, the White Wizard called for the services of the Duke. “I need you my son. The Rainbow Bridge needs you. I am sorry, but you will never be able to come back.

That was our promise to each other.”
The Duke understood and looked in the eyes of Rabunzel and said, “It is time for me to go home, Rabunzel. I made a promise. I want you to know I love you and I want you to be bonded again. It will be longer this time around.” And then the Duke vanished with the White Wizard to the Rainbow Bridge.

The Keepers saw the sadness in Rabunzel’s face and knew they had to do something. They took Rabunzel to the Guardians and tried to pair her with another. He was a shy, skittish, philosopher. He came into Rabunzel’s village and stayed for a week. However, he was always lost in his own thoughts and Rabunzel needed someone to be there to talk with and maybe love again.

The following weekend, the Keepers took Rabunzel back to the Guardians. First, she met a talker, but he always wanted to talk and not to listen. Then a young soldier came up to Rabunzel and told her that he was in one of the troops that the Duke had led. He knew how much Rabunzel meant to the Duke and he told Rabunzel how the Duke gave up everything for his troops. The young soldier asked if he could escort Rabunzel back to her village and be there for her. Rabunzel agreed.

The young soldier stayed next door to Rabunzel and then one day, Rabunzal invited in the young soldier. Was it a new beginning for Rabunzel? Only time would tell…
