Is Freelancing A Good Career?

Along with the growing trends of working from home and online, starting and building a freelancing career has become a more and more popular path to take.

Freelancing allows for a high level of independence, flexibility, and massive income generation. Regardless of the niche, there are increasing numbers of opportunities to jump into freelance careers which will mean working with multiple clients, while at the same time diversifying your income even in an uncertain economy.

What Is Freelancing?

Freelancing is a type of self-employment. The main difference between running freelancing and a regular self-employed business is that a freelancer works with a variety of clients at the same time.

Freelancers typically provide services, products, and knowledge to help their clients with a specific aspect of their businesses or lives. Note however that while freelancers choose what they will offer, their work is usually guided by the requests and needs of their clients.

Starting and Building A Freelancing Career - Good or Bad Choice?

Freelancing is a powerful and life-altering career path that allows you to have more freedom, income, and flexibility in your daily life. This profession also allows you to set your rates and choose which projects you want to work on.

You can work for yourself or work from anywhere full-time as a freelancer. You no longer have to drive to an office or deal with traffic daily. Not to mention the fact that you are free to wear whatever you want! (Unless you're attending a Zoom meeting.)

Also, as previously hinted, freelancing allows you to earn as much as you want by leveraging multiple clients. A 9-5 job, on the other hand, only pays you for the hours you work from one employer.

Well, even with the advantages that a freelancing career provides, many people correctly argue that there is usually a problem of work inconsistency and fluctuation. This is correct! However, winning jobs and consistently rendering freelance services is becoming easier to come by. The reason is because of the continuous adaptation of the workplace (industries) to new and in-demand changes that happens rapidly.

Furthermore, working for yourself as a freelancer will grant you control over your life, income, and job security. You can work with any company to provide them with your skill or service. In return, your client pays you daily, weekly, monthly, or according to your terms of the agreement. It's a win-win for both parties. So to answer if freelancing can be a good profitable full-time career? The answer is a resounding YES.

Ready To Start A Freelancing Career? - Important Things You Must Know

• You Are Your Business

Whether you are advertising your services, communicating with clients via email or Instagram DMs, or conducting a client call, you are representing your business because YOU are your business! In a freelance career, you will need to communicate with everyone you meet in a positive, professional, timely, and consistent manner. Even something as simple as a spelling mistake in a quick message can give clients the wrong impression.

• It Takes Time

When it comes to freelancing, becoming an "overnight success" is rare. It requires extensive planning, building, and adapting. During your freelance career, it will take time to build a large, consistent client base, but every step you take is a step in the right direction. Give yourself some space to grow as you get started; clients will come.

Also, take it one step at a time if the flexible, self-paced, and boss-free life that a freelance career path offers appeals to you. As long as you are reaching out to clients, creating a schedule for yourself, setting up systems and pipelines, and expanding your services, personal skills, in no time, the profits will come.

• You Need to Sell Yourself

Regardless of the freelance service you offer, you need to be able to sell your skills and services to prospective clients. You need to know what sets you apart from others, be able to show your prospective clients, and overall show how you can help them solve their problems. Spending time writing a professional bio to use when marketing your services, creating a portfolio of your previous work for clients to look through, and crafting a sales pitch that speaks directly to your client's pain points can all help with this.

• Rejection Will Happen

When you constantly start putting yourself out in your freelance career, not everyone is going to say yes to what you are offering. Many people face rejections during their freelance careers. That’s completely fine! Take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen your resiliency, recover, and move on to the next client. Your services may not be a good fit for everyone, but that doesn't negate the value of what you're offering. The right customers will find you!

• Collect Feedbacks Constantly

Another aspect of your freelance career that you should plan for early on is a method for your clients to provide feedback. Obtaining feedback and testimonials from current and previous clients is critical to a freelancer's success. Future clients enjoy hearing what others have to say before making a decision.

Conclusion

Freelancing has become a popular career choice for many people in recent years. Instead of working for one employer regularly, freelancers work for themselves and offer their services to businesses, usually working with multiple clients at once.

Popular fields for freelance work include Copywriting, content writing, graphics design, marketing, web development, etc.

With the gig economy on the rise, you may be interested in becoming a freelancer yourself. While there are several Pros and Cons of building a career in freelancing, on a scale of balance, the merits of building a freelancing career far out weights the demerits.
