Quick Question: They've collected billions from consumers all these years. What have they been using such money for? An increase in tariff is a slap on the citizens. You don't improve on power infrastructure, yet you have the audacity to increase tariffs. Let them yank all their cables and poles out of the streets. Enough is enough! How long will the nation carry on like this? How many industries will collapse with this new tariff of over 50% increase? |

I don't believe d #40/KWh rate, its just not feasible. PHCN generation cost is between #11 & #13 and pricing at circa #15 is sensible. Even its abt d price all over d world, although u will get many slightly cheaper.but if u factor in high system inefficiencies, infrastructures limitations and low reliability, u will agree wt d price. It's abt #45-#50/KWh using generator, so if d news is anything to go by, it means dt it will make better sense to source ur powers by generators and it also gives u higher up-time against erratic PHCN. So I will subscribe to d #10 report as I expect dt final pricing will still be jacked up to circa #15. BTW, domestic price isn't #8 but #5.60(?). Maybe he's quoting industrial price |

Hi guys, I BELIEVE IT IS THE COST OF KILOWATTS SUPPLIED TO INDUSTRIES THAT IS GOING UP FROM N12.90K TO N40 WHILE FOR DOMESTIC IS FROM N8.50 TO N10, THAT IS FOR 3 PHASE METERS. I TRIED TO PURCHASE SOME UNITS YESTERDAY AHEAD OF THE PRICE HIKE, TRUST NEPA, THEY SHUT DOWN THEIR SYSTEM CLAIMING IT IS UNDERGOING MAINTANANCE |

I trust nigerians, we'll pay even if it N100, cos some of us will be scared of being thrown into darkness when they bring their 10minutes a day light. Cowards. |

gabrieli: ^^Typical. And how many more industries would have to close down, due to high costs of not only paying an increased monthly tariff -but also the huge sums they spend on diesel and petrol every day. |

skealoo: Hahahahahahaahahahahahahaaha, See who wants to start a REVOLUTION. Be very honest with yourself. Can you REALLY imagine yourself going out on the street to actually demonstrate be it peaceful or violent? We too like life for Nigeria. Nobody is interested in any revolution that may take their lives. Nigerians prefer to suffer, complain, pray and smile. Even if this tariff is increased to N100 we will still pay. The best we can do is write impressive articles condemning the government or just jibber-jabber away on the internet. Internet Warriors!!!! Ahooooo! |

Until we initiate a revolution, these leaders will continue to do what they wish.It is convenient for them and they careless about what the common man feels. We are too scared to fight for our right. Armed robbers were at my house two days ago and part of the reason why they had the audacity was because there was no light.Nigeria is in a failed state. |

This is part of GEJ promises------ Hard/harsh economic decisions and policieswill be made, albeit after the election. This was published during this week. I wonder if our leaders, policy drivers and national decision makers have blood flowing in their veins. Nobody is talking about improving performance, yet we are talking of 500% tarrif increase. I pay 3k monthly (just a small family) despite that i dont use any heavy equipment and this light doesnt come everyday, sometime, it goes for a whole week. yet am paying 3k, now i shud be ready to pay 15 k abi. God will punish their wickedness. I would have expected GEJ to slash all the outrageous allowances being paid politicians to cater for waterever increased cost of providing amenities for the masses. Rather, they want to take more from us to cater for their selfish interests. Nigerians, please lets demand our dividends of democracy. Infrastructure and social amenities at affordable prices, this is one of the reasion i learnt Govt exists for during my days in senior secondary school |

Some people paid N40,000 for an MTN SIM back in the day (If I adjust that figure for inflation, it will be probably be worth N50,000 today!). If we want private sector participation and greater efficiency which means stable electricity for all of us, we are going to have to pay very high tariffs in the immediate future. It will go down when capacity increases and the cost of getting electricity to the final consumer comes down. This is what should normally happen, the problem comes when corruption sets in. Private companies have refused to by the divisions of PHCN without the increase in tariffs that is what the government is currently trying to do. This is the time-table for the privatisation process of PHCN: Task Finish Status Organize Road Show February 21, 2011 Done Review Expressions of Interest April 11, 2011 In Progress Issue bid documents to prequalified bidders TBD Pending Present bidders conference TBD Pending Prepare and submit proposals TBD Pending Review bids received TBD Pending Review Technical Aspects of bids TBD Pending Review Investment Aspects of bids TBD Pending Open Commercial Proposal TBD Pending Review commercial proposal TBD Pending Sign Agreements TBD Pending Handover facilities TBD Pending Download the tariff schedule too.

What is the difference in the name NEPA & PHCN. same bad eggs were gathered and put in a new crate without washing them. the bills are prepared without consulting the meter, what will it look like now a home will be charged millions in a month. It will be better if pple will be allowed to contest the bills before making payment, because one will be charged for consuming light for 12 days in a month , while it was actually for 7 days. The tariff is increased when the new minimum wage is yet to be fully implemented, how do they want the civil servants to survive? If the light is constant the rebranding we are talking about will be carried out by all. this is robbery in broad day light. |

stop carrying fals story http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2011/07/01/nigerians-to-pay-more-for-darkness-as-phcn-hikes-tariff-today/ With effect from today, electricity power consumers will pay more for the erratic power supply offered them by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN. The erratic nature of PHCN power supply make many Nigerians to hold the belief that they will be paying more for darkness. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC which regulates PHCN’s operations announced last week that consumers will now pay N10 per kilowatt an hour. An increment of N1.50 from the previous N8.50 per kilowatt an hour, representing a 17.6 per cent increase. According to NERC, the increase was aimed at making the power sector more attractive to investors who were of the opinion that the power tariff in Nigeria is the lowest in the world and therefore cannot make the market viable for prospective investors. Before the increase was announced, NERC had earlier held a meeting with the chief executive officers of electricity distribution companies. They were reminded that the electricity tariff schedule which should have been operative since 2008 will now be implemented. NERC informed the managers that the last schedule of the 2008/2013 Multi-Year-Tariff-Order, MYTO has been to charge N10 per kilowatt an hour. But it was not effected until now. However, the tariff increase came as a surprise to many consumers especially when PHCN power generation level has dropped from 3100 to 2800 mega watts in recent times. The PHCN had promised that it will not increase the tariff until there is an appreciable improvement in power supply. Power consumers have expressed outrage the increase at a time they experience more blackout or darkness than power supply. But the NERC over while informing the distribution companies of the new tariff regime, urged them to ensure marginal improvement in power supply to the consumers to justify the increment and encourage investors. The power regulatory body expressed the opinion that the new tariff will bring some gains for the PHCN in the areas of power delivery, be it generation or distribution. There has been argument that the Federal Government should hands off power generation and distribution so that private investors could take over and ensure efficient and steady power supply in the country. |
