No you don't know him. He nearly gave Nigeria 24 hours power but the cabal was so scared of perceived rising political profile and their business interests. He was removed immediately as a minister of power.

That's Nigeria for you.
No, you don't know him. He was removed because his company, Geometric Power was involved in the bids for the privatization of Afam Generation Company Limited and Enugu Distribution Company Limited.

Geometric Power had a minority stake in the Eastern Electric Nigeria Limited, which submitted technical and financial bids for Enugu Distribution Company.

Also, one of the consortia bidding for Afam Power Plant, O and M Solutions of Pakistan, was once Geometric Power’s contractor. Both companies had interests to bid for the Six Generation Companies, (Gencos.). This would have been a walk over for him as the Power Minister. Agreed, he knows his job as a power guru, he got caught up in the fastest fingers game as obtainable in a typical Nigerian government setting. I still want him to STFU you know?

How can you call a man that has built an independent power plant in Aba as part of the problem. If we had 5 of his kinds in Nigeria, we will be telling a different story.

I think the best thing is for states to be empowered to generating, transmitting and distributing their own power to serve their own people instead of this outdated national grid!
Imagine a south south state where the gas is coming from cannot even boast of 4 hours power in a day!

There are private companies that are capable and ready to build the generating plant but because of a constitution that says a generating capacity that exceeds one mega watts must be transferred to the national grid!

I just hope the amended power bill is finally signed by the president so that we can know who to hold responsible!

In 2022,we are still paying more for 'darkness'! Smh!

Nigeria electricity problems is multi facets. Bart Nnaji could not fix the problem of electricity while in position.

99.8% of Nigerians have the solutions to Nigeria problems when not in power or position but when they get to power the reverse is the case.

I have come to admit that this privatization to politicians and their cronies has to be reversed and given to abroad operators who are willing to make the investments needed especially for the transmission and generation sections as electricity subsidy has now been removed. With the needed investments in these sections, power outages will soon become a tale of the past. But governments who can make this reversal don't have political will to do it due to the fear of coups SMH.

As for gas pipeline vandalisations, resiting the gas power plants close to the gas production plants is a possible solution. Shorter distance means easier monitoring as monitoring will now be both for the power plants and production plants at a go.

My 2 cents.

The only solution to the power problem is the total privatisation of the sector. We have seen this in the telecom sector, and soon in the oil and gas sector, when Dangote Refinery comes online. Govt should have role on the productive sector of the economy, other than regulation.

Una don start with privatisation. Why are we quick to refer to privatisation instead of calling for transparency and accountability of our leaders. Since the privatisation policy was implemented. Over 400 public corporations have been privatised and less than 10% are still functional till this day. Does this look like a working model to you?

Privatisation will only worsen the living conditions of the common man. And it's unfortunate that the so called Enlightened folks are quick to support this with little or no understanding of the real issues.

We don't have electricity and power because our leaders are greedy, and they just want all the profit for themselves..

I think that this problem, as repeated by Prof. Barth Nnaji, is well-known to both the public and private the stakeholders of the sector. But what curious minds like myself would like to know is how we can solve this problems, and also if it's the FG, state government, or the private sector that should be relied upon to solve it once and for all, that way we'll know who to hold accountable for prolonging this problem. We keep making this stable electricity issue seem like it's rocket science.

Perhaps it's a lack of will to solve the problems that is the issue because these problems have always been there. Why can't a solution be devised for the sector the way it was with the Telecommunications sector for example?
Telecoms were sold to foreign investors who had enough capital and were able to meet up with setting up infrastructure needed.
The Nigerian businessmwn on seeing the amount of money made by MTN and others did not want the power sector sold foreigners as was done to Telecoms . So overnight ,all sorts of people became power giants , bidded and won because they are connected ..They expect to start reaping money immidiately without injecting the needed capital into it. Since these business men / politicians are cronies of the FG in power , they begin to use the power failure to loot the nation wealth .
Now that the nation is in debt and can't afford to sustain the cash flow , the problem became obvious .
In summary , Power sector was sold to politicians and business men who had little or no experience in power management. It was a paddy paddy thing . FG was at background backroling the expenses because they don't have the capital . Now that the FG is broke , the chicken is home to roost .
Don't let anyone deceive you . If OBJ/GEJ had sold power to Siemens , GE etc , we won't have these issues .Power may not be 100% but we will have move many miles ahead .

This barth man is one of the criminals that truncated the power sector! Barth nnaji was the man president jonathan placed as the custodian of power sector development only for this man to abandon his regulatory role to become a partaker in the biding process. His stupidity didnt open his eyes to the fact that without a straight channel generation the ones who want to distribute will only distribute tin air to consumers, which is now our reality.
the refinaries waste and flare away gas daily yet power company is forever short in gas. God help us

Let us assume he's a part of the problem as you opined; what has your aboki minister currently occupying space in the ministry of power doing to restore generation of power to what it used to be?

Oh, I forgot, he has no idea of what the problem was in the first place because he's a trained cattle herder! grin

how can we solve the problem when the so-called leaders of nigeria are either the owners of generator manufacturing companies or stake holders in such firms.
need to divide nigeria so that each region will conduct their own revolutions separately without any fool citing tribalism(the most potent weapon, religion not excluded)of political class.

More like reversal of the privatization that was done in 2014 to inexperienced politicians and their cronies and rather a reprivatization to companies experienced in the electricity sector such as Ontario Hydro, Manitoba Hydro and others which should have been done in the first place!

Fun fact - while I was in Winnipeg between 2009 and 2011, the light didn't blink for once even in -35 degree C weather with a wind chill of -7 degree C for a total of -42 degree C. And that situation happens at least 7 times in their winter season every year. Now, just imagine if Manitoba Hydro was given one of the gas power plants originally and not TCN, how the generating capacity would have been increased maybe at least triple times unlike the current owners who never added 1 MW to their power plants since 2014 SMH.
