dannywest:I buy from my bank N154, I do not think its an official policy, I don't believe the bank management knows of such operation. Besides its not always available as they buy directly from people who come to receive western union payment. I bought N163 from an aboki in delta state |

Fhemmmy:Funny enough, I just called my bankers and told them I want to buy dollars directly from them and they were like 'guy make you come later, if I no de meet that guy' and that was it. This is nigeria where almost anything goes. Luckily enough for me I saw how the whole process works, ie buying from western union receivers and selling to buyers. Even the bankers do not buy the dollars with their money, they simply meet a teller and ask for money with which to buy, conclude the transaction and virtually make money out of thin air. |

Like they'd say, when there's a will, there's a way, I just got 300$ for N155.41, Used my naira mastercard for the transaction and it was deducted from my naira current account, :-) |

In simple terms, if you have a Mastercard or Visacard that you can load in Naira, and use it in Dollars(either by withdrawing on ATMs in USA/Canada) or buy goods online, then you will only be buying dollars at 155-156 naira, But the potentials are limited! |
Re: Naira Now N166 To $1. Can Someone Tell Me What Is Happening? by Nobody: 9:50am On Jul 26, 2011 |
sholatech:You will be buying at official rate which is 149-151 and its limited to $40k, if you can prove to gtb that the card is inadequate for you then I'm sure they'll issue you a no limit debit card |

Would you guys recommend any bank for this? Please make sure it is a tested and trusted bank . . . cos nothing worse than loading a card with money and yet the card is not acceptable at stores or dealers when i get back to home base. I hate such embarrassment |

@Blink182 IM SO SO SORRY!! I TRAVELLED OVER THE WEEKEND AND JUST RETURNED LAST NIGHT. ITS THE NORMAL GTBANK ORANGE NAIRA MASTERCARD. IF YOU HAVE A CURRENT ACCOUNT WITH GTB, USE IT FOR YOUR ONLINE TRANSACTIONS AS USUAL AND THE NAIRA EQUIVALENT FOR YOUR TRANSACTION WOULD BE DEDUCTED FROM YOUR CURRENT ACCOUNT. THATS HOW ITS WORKING FOR ME NOW. SORRY FOR THE DELAY, AND FOR TYPING IN CAPS. |
