The guy may have just left religion not quite long so he may be naive. If a person just got a high-paying job or achieved any other significant milestone in life, if doesn't make sense to start announcing it to people anyhow.

Ask yourself why doesn't Jordan allow Palestinians into their country? Same with Egypt. Same with Saudi Arabia. Lebanon that tried it are regretting it.
