DissTroy: As a northerner in tech, I knew I had to hightail it down south or I was just going to be another woulda-coulda. Tech flourishes in libertarian environments not in rigid authoritarian setups rife with nepotistic undertones. There’s a reason California has the most left-leaning populace and also the biggest tech ventures in the world. 1 Like 1 Share |

larride:There are a lot of things wrong in this country. I think the state government is not serious about ensuring LASTMA officials stick to their job of managing free flow of traffic. Normally why should LASTMA be chasing a vehicle when there are already cameras taking pictures of traffic offenders almost everywhere in Lagos? Shebi they are just expected to send direct message to the driver's phone informing him of the fine and make it impossible for him to renew his papers except he pays the official fine. Just like izzou pointed out, sweeping on an express road seems weird and just a disaster waiting to happen. I understand there was need for LASG to create jobs for those cleaners, but the risk they are exposed to on the job is just too much. I don't even know what the government can do to protect those cleaners other than to take them off the highways |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 11:34am On Nov 13, 2023 |
izzou: Thank you. I was going to post this. It is insanity to have people working on an EXPRESSWAY. the whole point of an express is for you to drive at high speed. It is why you have Kai on ground to arrest people who do not cross the bridge. The logical thing is to do all cleaning at night, but since there are no working floodlights here we are. Eventually someone will countersue lasg Was there a zebra crossing? A stop sign? Do people clean expressways during rush hour in civilized countries? You cannot claim that it is reckless driving on an expressway. |

DeadPresidents: I think your mean liberal environments Nigeria imho is a true libertarian environment where individuals provide their energy, security etal. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 11:39am On Nov 13, 2023 |
GloriousGbola: It is actually reckless driving as most times those Lawma cleaners usually have a cone for caution whenever they are sweeping. It's not as if those women were trying to cross the road. The system is not perfect tbh but this particular incident is reckless driving fueled by Lastma. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:40am On Nov 13, 2023 |
GloriousGbola: Everybody will blame the driver, but the truth is those cleaners have no business staying on the expressway. That is an expressway for heaven's sake. Standing on the kerbside is risky, talk more of on the lane, sweeping. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DeadPresidents: 11:41am On Nov 13, 2023 |
GloriousGbola: Nigeria is not libertarian at all in my books. You can’t express your true personality in Nigeria and feel safe. We have people hiding their sexuality, political affiliation and religious ideologies for fear of their personal safety. Nigeria would have killed Alan Turing in WW2 immediately his sexual orientation was revealed (Britain actually did that for real which was regrettable) We’re not libertarian at all |

BlueRayDick: The way those lastma guys behave as if they are bigger than life ehn. I almost had an encounter with one of them earlier this year. I was in a danfo going to Maryland, just after Ojota where you pass that bridge, that's how these Lastma vehicles just blocked the danfo I was in from the front, we were saved by whisker that the trailer behind us didnt ran into us. I almost slap the lastma guy when I came down. How do you put people's live at risk because you want to catch an offender? Those guys are a menace and the earlier LASG make sure they stick to their core mandate of ensuring free flow of traffic, the better for us. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 11:43am On Nov 13, 2023 |
larride: A single cone on an express to protect a human being working? Why are lasg running up and down arresting people whose cars stop on expressways and roads? We know it is a shakedown, but a car that stops on an expressway is a hazard. A person working on an expressway is also a hazard. If repair works were going on they would cordon off the portion of the road or shut it down. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:43am On Nov 13, 2023 |
larride: You mean the cones they put 100cm from where they are sweeping? A human being should not even be there, even if you put 10 cones. When you have a flat tire, you look out for a safe place to park and change it. Everywhere is not safe, even if you have a C-Caution. If those women cannot sweep at late nights, where there's little to no traffic, they should stay at home. What they are doing in way too risky. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 11:48am On Nov 13, 2023 |
izzou: Ok. Let's blame the victims. Since these guys have been sweeping Express and expressway, how many accident or causalities have we had? |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 11:49am On Nov 13, 2023 |
DeadPresidents: 1. In a true libertarian society govt does nothing and the free market is responsible for security etal. That's why I say Nigeria is a libertarian society If robbers are around you have to settle police before they come. If there is fire and fire service comes you have to get water for them. If there is power issue we have to buy our own transformer. That is a true libertarian system. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 11:51am On Nov 13, 2023 |
izzou: If someone have a flat tire on the expressway, then park on the side to fix his car and he put those danger and caution sign while trying to fix his car, then one unfortunate reckless driver goes and hit the person where he's fixing the car, whose to blame? |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:51am On Nov 13, 2023 |
larride: Since Nigerians have been storing fuel in their houses, how many accidents and casualties have we had? Therefore storing fuel in my 1 bedroom flat is safe, since there are no casualties. Maybe you can show me one African country (Not US/Europe) where someone will stand on an expressway and be sweeping 1 Like |

larride: The blame is not on the victims. It is on lasg that effected this policy. In reality the victims should be suing lasg or whoever put them there. There is no difference between lasg and those Chinese factories we were talking about in other conversations. People are being put to work in hazardous conditions with no safeguards |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:54am On Nov 13, 2023 |
larride: Before you call the driver reckless, where did you park? Do you know that while you are parked on the expressway, with your car jacked up, the wind from other cars passing can shift your jack, and the car can fall on the person? Most expressways are designed to have lay-bys where people can park. If your car has issues, manage it there. Because you have C-Caution does not mean you can park anywhere. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 11:54am On Nov 13, 2023 |
Its not as if its today we have reckless drivers hitting and killing people that are not even sweepers on the road. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 11:57am On Nov 13, 2023 |
larride: Because a car hits someone doesn't make the driver at fault. Unfortunately, it is the song for Nigerians I have a friend that killed someone before. He was driving around 11pm on Apapa/Oshodi expressway when someone just rushed into the road. He tried to stop but the deed was done. He was reckless shey? |

Amoto94: My point exactly! Abuja is the FCT. I mean techies resident in the North. North like NORTH. See how I mentioned other cities outside Lagos in the South? Startup Sokoto? Sokoto?! Twitter handles? Don't go there. Maybe Jos outside Abuja but it's not thriving. |

izzou: You do know you can park your car even in the lay-by and a reckless driver can come run you over there? This argument is actually funny. Let's continue to blame the victims. |

larride: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cb5Ka9SqGM?si=7BNaU3MWm-676K9E This is what lagosians casually do everyday. Run across a road where you can legally drive at over 100km/hr. If I hit a person running across an expressway I am not legally at fault. It cannot even count as negligence. But because it is Nigeria police and community will shake me down. |

Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 12:02pm On Nov 13, 2023 |
larride: I am not blaming the victims. I have been in a position during my Uber days when i almost hit one of these LASG cleaners She was even using a bucket as her cone. I scattered the bucket, but didn't get to her. The argument is not funny. No human being should be on the expressway. Even road construction companies give a lot of distance and warning signs just to work there. How can a government give someone a cone, and expect disaster not to happen one day? |

GloriousGbola: Nobody is talking about someone that is running to cross a expressway. We are talking of a car running over someone that's standing beside a kerb. Context matters and all this spinning is not necessary. |
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 12:04pm On Nov 13, 2023 |
izzou: In 1999 or thereabouts I was in suleja. Me and white boy. We entered a 504 going to ilorin. The man drove onto the express and at the same time a pair of lunatic wheel barrow carrier ran across the road. If the man had not swerved to avoid the idiot we may have been alright He swerved, lost control hit the idiots and the car almost flipped. All of us in the car could have been injured or killed because of fools running across the road. |
