SENATOR IFEANYI UBAH HEALTHCARE INTERVENTION A PANACEA TO THE DECAYED HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN OUR SOCIETY.
Chikeluba Romanus Izuchukwu

Deb Haaland an American Politician, opined that we must shift our thinking away from short-term gain to long-term investment and sustainability, and always have the next generation in mind with every decision we make.

The Right to life loosely translates to our health as humans; as it is only the healthy that can fully explore this right. The Healthcare Infrastructures of a society is of outmost importance. Furthermore, as contained in the Sustainable Development Goals(SDG), Good health and wellbeing ranks third after only No Poverty and Zero hunger. Thus, highlighting the indispensable nature of Life, which Health is a forerunner. No one should therefore be denied the right to life, invariably face death owing to lack of healthcare facilities and infrastructure. All Nigerians regardless of their status should be able to access proper healthcare as it is their right as citizen of this great nation.

In the 2022 budget, Out of the total N16.39 trillion proposed budget, a sum of N711.28 billion was earmarked for the ministry of health, that's 4.3% of the entire budget. Of course we know where this little funds goes to. Based on the proposed federal government budget, and its allocation of N711.28 billion to the ministry of health in pursuit of the goal of a healthy populace, N3,453 is what the federal government has earmarked to cater for the health of all of its 206 million citizens. The capital budget for the ministry of health stands at N194.60 billion, while recurrent expenditure is at N503.98 billion. The proposed budget for the ministry is even the highest since President Buhari came into power in 2015.
Recall that because of poor health infrastructure and welfare, Medical Doctors went on strike twice between January and September last year. Beyond these strikes, more than 500 Doctors considered the option of leaving to another country as they indicated interest in a recruitment exercise by the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health.

Now, ponder over these figures and ask yourself if the FG actually have the interest of the masses at heart, in the same nation where an individual loots over 84 billion in where little is budgeted and allocated for the healthcare of over 206 million citizens. The 2022 proposed health budget still falls below the 15% benchmark of health sector budget allocation which was reached by the leaders of the African Union (AU) in April 2001 at Abuja, where the Heads of State and Government of the AU made a commitment to allocate 15% of their annual budget to improve the health sector.

The nonchalant attitude of our leaders towards healthcare system is second to none, reason being that they do not make use of public health facilities and that doesn't bother them to equip our hospitals even when funds are allocated for it yearly.

Our politicians always travel abroad for treatment instead of investing in our health care system.

Ubah being a household name did not join politics for personal gratification.
Like Peter Obi, he was well established and boosts over 30, 000 direct jobs across the nation before stepping foot into politics unlike most of our career politicians who have no other means of sustenance aside the fact that they hold public offices.

Just like before Peter Obi took over from the career politicians who held Anambra treasury to ransom, Senator Ubah stands out today as the only Senator in the history of Anambra South who delivered the dividend of democracy to her constituency , his achievements and performances even as a first timer has surpassed that of other Senators from the zone put together. He has invested so much on the healthcare of the populace, building and equipping ultra modern hospitals across the senatorial district. He is not into renovation, he starts from the foundation and finish up within a very short period unlike what is obtainable in the past where a healthcare project takes decades to materialise.

One thing I like about him is the fact that he hands over these hospitals to private organisation to manage , the two recent ones are in Ekwulobia and Uga respectively which was handed over to the diocese of Ekwulobia.
Hundreds of people today are beneficiaries of this great investment in the Health sector.

It is of utmost importance to note that prioritizing Health sector is a necessity and should be held in high esteem, the premium attention of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in this course is a standard that is obtainable in any sane society that cares about the next generation.

Conclusively, Senator Ubah's laudable achievements are not only intriguing but in strong alignment with the need of the people and it will not be out of place if we say Senator Ubah's legacies and track-records has imprinted his name indelibly in the hearts of both the young and old

This man is indeed, a very different breed of politician.

Sadly, Ifeanyi Ubah would likely lose his seat in the forth coming election. The factor that helped him in 2019 will not repeat itself.
