Under-19 children staying with women, especially Igbos, are murderously treated!

Many hardly get marital lives later on, and some are killed while during their childhood "househelping". (I thought the child was helping you? )

Ex: 1. "Recently, A 29-year old Anambra lady was arrested for attempting to kill a 14-year old child (househelp) in her keeping by throwing the child off the 4th floor window of their apartment (in Onitsha) during a beating." - The child survived.

Nigerian women, and many Igbo women are sometimes known to be possessed by demons when it comes to househelps. Even the ones who on a normal day are your friends. You will be shocked to death by what they can do or how they can behave behind close doors.

No wonder their President is a murderer.

I have been a witness to such more than ten thousand times.

Keeping people's children (any human not up to 19) should be banned asap. Not even 18 as those ones could still be successfully emotionally rubbished to a rag-tag class.
The child should meet adulthood in the parents house.

EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT AND THE DIVINE VOCATION TO STAY WITH HIS OR HER PARENTS TILL AT LEAST 16, IF NOT SOMETIMES 18. There is no better education that child can get than that in that atmosphere. Many billionaires today were once in extremely poor families. But none of them was a woman househelp. Any separation before that is a mortal killing.

Nothing like for better schooling in 'city.' That child was going to school and feeding before you met her.

All Nigerians/Igbos should be banned from having househelps. Leave that woman's child.

Your idea is unrealistic in this Nigeria. How can Nigeria enforce the law in a country where kids are illegally and secretly adopted? Where people live with their uncles and aunties for survival? Where some parents abuse even their biological children? Where paternity fraud is reigning? Where the government does not know the population of teenage orphans and the number of orphanages? Where women dump babies by roadsides? Where senators approach youths for organ donations?

With your suggestion, you have completely absolved the government of its job to regulate the system, investigate and bring perpetrators to book

The government needs to establish strict regulations for having a house help which includes a minimum wage payment, minimum requirements to be met by the employer, mandatory psychological evaluations and support systems for the house helps to ensure they feel safe in their workplace, and can access help and alternatives if they don’t, periodic check-ins to monitor the system and ensure continuous adherence to requirements etc.

A complete ban is the least helpful thing you can do here. The system can be made to work. Someone has to come up with the solution and do the work it needs.

No government can ban "domestic workers". What you see in the typical home is child labour.

No to child labor,no to children doing house help,it's traumatic,it destroys their childhood.
If you need a house help,go for adult teens that have at least completed secondary school.
But most Nigerian won't do that because they're cowards, they want a help that they will fear them beyond measure and worship them and serve their children like gods.
They want children they can beat without raising a voice, they want children they can put their hands in fire, burn their buttocks with pressing iron, evil MFs. Yet they will dress up on Sunday,go to worship, praise God while crying, evil souls.

There's nothing bad in having a house maid. A house maid can either be hired from a company or the commin settings we have in Nigeria, which is, getting someone from the village. The former is entitled to salary while the latter should be given proper education while he/she helps in housekeeping.

You want to compare the whites to Nigeria.

Do we have jobs here where parents can schedule their time to rotate being with the kids?

Is it realistic for one person to stay home if the income of one is not sufficient?

Is the government paying welfare?

Is there free education for the kids so that it is easier for one parent to stay home since fees are covered?

If your child is at school or creche, can you make it back in Lagos traffic for instance to pick them up on time?

It's easy for you to give suggestions because you are talking from an outside perspective. But do you have kids?

Children of 10, 12, 13, 14 ARE NOT labourers for anybody. It destroys their childhood. How many of them do you see succeeding in life?

Every child should be with his parents till at least 18.

You can employ an adult caretaker whom you will register at LG office and pay min wage. Not to look for kids to milk and spank behind close doors. No.

One I know personally was staying with a family before age 18. She has finished secondary school and is about doing jamb to go to university while still working in the house.

This is something she would have never achieved if she was still in the village with her parents and many siblings...

My OP was referring to domestic workers who are of legal age to work

Child labor is a criminal offense in most states in Nigeria. If you know anyone employing a child, you should contact the authorities.

1. OP was talking of househelps as they are: children in other families' custody. 7years to 20 years in Nigeria.

2. "If you know anyone...". That stupid Nigerian line. They are everywhere starting maybe from your house and your neighbour's house. Start from your house and keep a look on your neighbour. How old is she and at what age did she come to the family?

1. I see that. My OP (Original Post) was referring to house helps of working age because I already know that child labor is a crime in most states in Nigeria. What's the point in a ban on something that's already a crime? Like, should there be a ban on murder?

2. You got overly defensive over a friendly advise. Mind sharing why? "Great" display of character by the way

Hmmmm!

Many poor people breed because they need to be taken care off when they get old!

If not I'd suggest people hustle hard, have at most Three kids!

But we are not ready for that!
