The problem Nigeria has is leadership otherwise it would have been one of the best places in the world if Nigeria has good leadership, abroad will be like Nigeria.. boring and not rosy... Nigerians want the privilege and unending freedom they get in Nigeria in developed countries. A better Nigeria is the current abroad 8 Likes |

Life is better in Nigeria. Germany infrastructure is better. I'm in the UK however.
I should add to my former position by stating that basic life abroad may be better or worst for you depending on your starting position in Nigeria. If you are a poor jobless Nigerian used to life in the shantytown type environment and your ambitions in life are steady electricity, pipe-born water, modest dwelling, regular no fanfare school, regular paying job and no plans of returning to Nigeria or any other country, then European nations or US or Canada may be better for you, if things work out. However, if you're a more ambitious Nigerian but not a professional able to find well paid work abroad, Nigeria is best for you. If you're an enlightened Nigerian, Nigeria is better for you. If life is more important to you than electricity and clean roads, Nigeria is better for you.
Considering the fact that you’re in the Uk, are you a poor jobless Nigerian used to life in the shantytown type environment whose ambitions in life are steady electricity, pipe-born water, modest dwelling, regular no fanfare school, regular paying job and no plans of returning to Nigeria or any other country? |

I am telling you the reality of life abroad for the majority of Nigerians who will japa!!!! I am privileged, I have citizenship, I was a high rate tax payer which means I was considered well off in the Uk but I can back home because there are certain things money can’t buy.
If you can raise the money for a ticket you can raise the money to start and grow a business in Nigeria!!!! Trust me if you are the kind of person that cannot find a business to do in Nigeria with the money it would cost you to move abroad, you are the kind of person that will be stuck in a rut if you move abroad. You are the sort that will find they can’t go forward, can’t go backwards once you get there. Before you give this advice, go and give up your British citizenship. 6 Likes |

PetroDolla2020: By the way, how do you define one country “better” than another? Do you measure it by the prices of goods and services, or by what exactly?
You were in Ghana? Did you see people being kidnapped on the streets? You didn’t see electricity was stable and regular? Just these two things alone make Ghana a better country. You want Ghana, Cameroon etc government to give you, a foreigner, a job in their country? Are you serious?
Do I look like someone who is waiting for a governor or president to give me job? I am not waiting for entitlement... I am there to work on my own seek for opportunities... Light or no light just face the fact and stop being ignorant... I am not fighting for one party nor a government or president... I am fighting for my own self... Face it or leave in denial... Nigeria is better all you have to do is get what will sustain you... Complain only comes when things didn't work our way in this country and once it works the way we want we keep shut unless you are playing along... I was born and brought up in Nigeria and there is something we know as generator even if there is no light... No work no work but people still got a job no matter who is ruling... No money no money yet people prosper noatter who is ruling... I don't care about what rules Nigeria or a party nor a person cos no matter what they are who they are politicians but I tell you the fact as it is... If you have some point go there too and experience it yourself no one including myself will hold you down simple... If you think it's a lie then go there and don't argue... Experience is the best teacher man. We learn from mistakes and I learn mine simple... That's my point.. 1 Like |

krissconnect: These past weeks, I've been reaching out to my friends who are abroad to help me with links or advices to move abroad too. But I discovered that none of them decided to help, instead they discouraged me either by saying, "it's difficult to move now or the country isn't issuing visa now".
One of my guy in CANADA defiantly ignored my text when I asked him for links or the route he used to move, the other in Korea said the country isn't issuing visa now but he recently moved back and another directly said that it's very hard to get visas now to travel. But one Asian American in the States gave me lots of links to move to the State and even encouraged me to move.
But then I don't understand why our African brothers over there will never encourage or advice someone willing to move. Is it envy or greediness or what? I've never had any of my guy abroad encourage me to move when I asked for advice. If things are difficult over there, why not come home?
NB: I never asked them for fund cos the money is available. Na so our mentality be. But we keep pushing. Could you kindly share the bolded info with me? |

Raregem9000: Find his own way? Remember, we rise by lifting others up. I experienced same thing the poster was saying three years ago. I have a cousin who lives abroad. He has been there for a decade now and i only asked him to just help with an invite while i pay for every money that will be spent and i will work things out when i get there. Note: I'm paying for everything. This my cousin kept on giving me stories like it's not easy there that i shouldn't come. He even said i should use the money i had with me to start a business in Nigeria instead of coming there. I was like why are you still there if it's not easy? I just bone him and block him on every social platforms. A year after, i went to an agent to help on a Canadian Visa but i was duped. I'm looking forward to doing all by myself when i'm ready to go on the adventure again without involving any agent and when the soup is done, i would unblock that my cousin, so that he can see that what he failed to help me with has been achieved. Lol I see pride and entitlement in your post. That invitation thing no longer works. Also if he invites you and you fail to return home as promised, are you aware that he won’t be able to invite others in the future such as his parents? 4 Likes |

What exactly do you mean by encourage? Let me explain it to you as someone who has a British passport has live abroad for many years but returned home.
The truth is life over there is a sort of bondage for someone with a Nigerian mindset. You are constantly working to pay bills , no matter how much you earn your expenses rise such that you are a slave to your job, the system entraps you in ways I can’t describe here for sake of brevity, unless you are amongst the few who can establish a means of income in the multiples of hundreds of thousands be it dollars be it pounds. Otherwise yes you will eat well and enjoy certain basics that may not be available in Nigeria for most Nigerians but there are many negative intangibles especially for someone raised in Nigeria.
Unless you are a high paying job, $100-200k + life is not a bed of roses. Even at that level you are struggling but can afford things to mitigate the struggles like holidays back home or other destinations. In theory you will be better off than in Nigeria initially but life is such that once you overcome the basic sufferings back in Nigeria, the intangible negatives start to matter. I am back in Nigeria and I wouldn’t go back. I am lucky I can travel out when I am tired of Nigeria but I will never again live abroad….unless I am forced to. With all the problems of Nigeria, there is no place like home. There is a sense of freedom and self worth in Nigeria you have that you lose when you go abroad, that’s one of the intangibles I talk about. No matter what you will always be a nobody abroad….that’s another!!!
Would I encourage anyone to move abroad. It’s a hard question because you will pay a huge psychological price for moving abroad, one you will not understand until you get there and one I can never explain to you until you have experienced it. What I would say is, if you want to go abroad, have a mission and come back with if 5 years!!! I won’t encourage or discourage anyone!!! I wouldn’t actively encourage anyone because I don’t want to be the one responsible for selling you a dream that will not match your reality!!!!
All of this comment above is nonsensical. I only started posting recently and it was a comment like this - denigrating the quality of life for Nigerians living in the UK or USA - that brought me here. As I said in an earlier post, I wish everyone on this forum would post with their real names so we can have something on which to judge the commentary. I've lived in both Nigeria and the USA. Around 15 years ago there might have been some "intangible" thing that recommended Nigeria and maybe that thing will be revived 15 years from today...but for now, for the vast majority of people on the order of over 95%, there's nothing that makes Nigeria a better place to live than the USA or UK. Nothing at all. On what aspect of living do I start? I suspect most of these posts are just muckraking, wallowing in the fun afforded by an anonymous message board. Please get real. 2 Likes |

Lol I applied for canadian PR via express entry by reading the contents of the official canadian immigration website and that was sufficient for me. I still prefer that over asking Nigerians in Canada because I learnt long ago how people (my naija people) tend to change once they get to the west. For instance I have a friend who has been in canada for more than 10 years and stayed at my place a few times he visited naija. On one occasion he was visiting and I had just moved to a new apartment with little resources after spending on agency fee/rent/installations and all. There was a vacant room in my house but it had no furniture in it but I ordered a bedframe from konga and bought a foam from mouka. I also bought an AC and installed in the room so he'll be comfortable. He stayed with me as he usually does
Fast-forward I told him I was trying to get a PR but didnt ask him for assistance . More like I informed him. When PR came through I mentioned also but told him I have almost one year before the COPR document will expire thus I will take my time and try to get a job so I wont need to spend out of my savings or sell anything. 6 weeks after my passport was delivered I secured a job and messaged him that I'll be coming and need a place to spend the first two weeks. His response was that he had a long day and suggested we should talk about this the next day. For me this feedback was enough to know that I needed to make an alternative plan. Again thank God for good savings and air bnb . We eventually spoke the next day but he said his house was full but if I could hang and delay trip for two months his friend will move out and I can come. He also said his friend paid him $1000 monthly to stay with him and I can also pay same lol. See why I said information online is more sure as I know how my naija people are when they leave naija. They can be suspicious of almost everyone.
Bottomline the person that housed me for the initial two weeks was my neighbour many years ago who I hadn't seen or spoken to for more than 10 years. The guy even came to pick me from the airport on a workday. I looked for his number when I needed a favour from him and I felt bad because since 2009 I had never asked about him or even made effort to contact him. I relearnt about how unpredictable life can be lol. During my stay at his place I always insisted on paying for the groceries when we went to the market. I earned my first salary while in his house and took him out that day all bills on me lol.
My brother the story is the same in england or USA. I guess the pressure of the western society and suspicion about people back home makes them behave this way. But for me I learnt about this in 2008 when I was going to study outside nigeria for the first time. My dad handed me some money and told me to manage my finances very well while reminding me that friendship and family system in the west is different from in Nigeria. He told me stories about his days as a PhD student in USA and how the support system was non-existent in the western world compared to nigeria. He told me nobody will give me $1 and I got used to it.
So I'll summarize by saying you can do these things on your own. Dont make them feel too important. The government of these countries have made things easier with a lot of information online. Do not pay anybody any money wen u cm Nigeria, u go sleep my place n feel a.c for ur yanch. I need a place to sleep now,u say pay $1,000.is dat not wickedness n cunning ness. 1day,e go get am, or dem go do his children. Most illegal migrants rusbed to the factories ... how many factories are left now?... most manufacturing moved to China. You use Decentralized Routes. That is what Crypto is Meant to do. Before, we do not have Dollar Backed Crypto. But Now, we have USDT, BUSD, TUSD, USDP, USDC, DAI. If I am traveling to USA and I need to take my 200M naira with me for instance, I do not need to use the bank swift system where I would be policed by those Tyrants whom you call "government". All I need do is to convert my Naira to any of the Stable Crypto Currencies. Preferably USDT or BUSD to store it in a safe Crypto Wallet either web based or stand alone. Dollar is scarce in Nigeria but Naira is not. Then use your Naira to buy any of the other African currencies like XAF and use your XAF to buy Dollars. Sell the Dollar at black market. Banks are in business to make profit. So it is impossible for them to not find a way of selling the dollars they Buy from CBN indirectly. This why Some Nigerian Banks are selling and Buying Naira in exchange for some selected African countries. Who as time those Fulanised Negative Policies here? 3 Likes |
