$1 Billion Needed To Clean Up Oil Spills In Niger Delta by nolongTing: 11:47am On Aug 05, 2011 |
A landmark United Nations study into the long-term environmental impact of oil production in Nigeria says that oil spills have led to acute health risks for area residents and widespread environmental damage that may take as many as 30 years and $1 billion to clean up. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111903454504576488113670955644.html?mod=googlenews_wsj http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-14413174 Is that all? one billion? I don't think so surely its 10 times that amount to clean up the years of damage. GEJ should act fast to make sure his fathers land is not short changed! Do you think the Nigerian government should pay for some of the damage too? |

Looks like both the oil companies and the FG will be liable. FG is usually the senior partner to the oil companies I think. So may even be liable for more than the oil companies are? |
