In relatively normal society, the media to a great extent acts as watchdogs against corruption, thieving and all the ills of the society, especially the ones perpetuated by public servants but nigeria media houses turn out to be literarily dens of robbers, brown envelope collectors, prolific traitors and mass murderers like OBJ. |

This is to all of you in this forum. Obasanjo is the best President Nigeria has ever had. If you know all that is involved in being President in Nigeria, then you would appreciate Baba. Unfortunately, Baba would have to die before many of you would open up your minds to see the guy as a selfless unifying leader. His enemies are very powerful and do not sleep at all. They make up, spread and manipulate information to make him look like a villain using all the mainstream news media to do their dirty job. No wonder National mirror is reaching out to him to tell his own story. For example, how many of you knew that the power stations that was supposed to give Nigeria 5000MW was 75% complete and all Yar'Adua had to do was to disburse the last tranche of funds? Well it is true. YarAdua and his goons decided to cancel the works and probe the contracts thereby loosing money. It is the same work that was suspended that we are now picking up again and thus paying additional money to revive. I leave you all with your consciences each time you join the let us bash Baba frenzy. |

man smith: What is wrong with his statement on the former Egyptian leader. He said, inter alia that"As I watched the CNN television last Wednesday night,rd August, and I saw the former Egyptian president Mubarak in a cage, responding to charges brought against him,I shrugged in disgust",,,,,,does he need to be put in a cage like an animal"??,,,,,,,,,,,continuing,OBJ said in the article that"No matter what his alleged offence may be,he must also be presumed innocent until found guilty. To put him in a cage for public exhibition as if already found guilty as a criminal was both unfair and prejudicial" So Mr smith, show me what is wrong with OBJ's comments above??Ah ah,some objective perspective please |

Issues of obj being a good columnist or not is not the issue we should consider here. Can he tackle the 'wrong side' of the administration he help to install? One thing i'll love to read in his column is how he will respond to the baggage of allegation against his administration. |

The main problem with africans is that they blindly fail to realise what the problems are and who their immediate enemies are. Any newspaper that obj represents is declared institutional enemy of the people and enemy of progress. Obj has nothing to write about but how to systematically destroy a nation, leave the common man spell bound and feeling guilty of the suffering that is not of his own makings, blaming everything but animals like obj. |

Re: Olusegun Obasanjo Becomes A Newspaper Columnist! by dammytosh: 7:13pm On Aug 14, 2011 |
Another ill motivated post. Obasanjo can not be 100% bad neither can he be 100% good neither is Buhari or the much revered Tinubu by the Tinubustanis. Take this fact or die being sentimental as a result of sponsored stories u read in d media. An ex president being a newspaper columinist is not a bad idea. The problem we have in Africa is dt we don't regard our former leaders. That is why some of them will rather die in power and kill as many people as possible. I watched CNN and i hear them call President Bush, President Clinton. Here we say former president to show our disdain for our ex leaders. Why should Mubarak be brought to court on s sick bed inside a cage ? Is it necessary ? and you expect Gaddaffi to reliquish power in Libya , without killing as many as possible. What is this curse on Africa all about. |

If you say President Olusegun Obasanjo has bad grammar (which I have never heard or read any), then please go and listen to President John Atta Mills of Ghana. lol |
Re: Olusegun Obasanjo Becomes A Newspaper Columnist! by ihebrooke(m): 8:29pm On Aug 14, 2011 |
its no big deal. For a former president to stoop low and become a newspaper columnist is not a bad idea to me. It shows that there is nothing too big or too little for a ''president''. Every body is a normal citizen until elevated. |

carla2009: This is one of the best post i have read on nairaland. i have read a lot of articlesbashing OBJ and am yet to read an oobjective one. all i see is an echo of ACN propaganda. Just because baba tried to outwit them which is not an evil thing unless of course you are ACN. Baba is the only patriotic Nigerian out there so far as i can see. He had a lot of enemies and sometimes, his methods werent the best because he has a military background but it was never indoubt that he loved nigeria. For example i want to ask what is wrong in a man desiring to have a thord term in office. The opposition media just demonised the idea and all of you jumped on the band wagon like the characters in animal farm and started bleeping. there is nothing wrong in a man wanting 3rd term. what would have been wrong is if he had tried to take it by force. but the opposition made it look like a criminal act and you lot just started following. It is a pity we do not even know who our reall enemies are. ask those bashing him here now to give you an objective view of what he did wrong and they will not have any serious point. |

edicolove: interesting. obj is the only patriotic Nigerian out there. Could you please let me in on your understanding of the meaning of the word patriot? all these accolades you are showering on the man, is it the obj we know or another. please, if you want to be a sycophant, at lease don't make it so barefaced. if you can talk about obj like that, then what moral standing do you have to speak ill of those that idolize ibb and abacha? |
Re: Olusegun Obasanjo Becomes A Newspaper Columnist! by goodjack(m): 9:34pm On Aug 14, 2011 |
You people should tell him to use this God giving oppotunity to confess all he and his cohorts did in this country. This will help him to make heaven and at the same time see God he has always claimed to be serving. |
Re: Olusegun Obasanjo Becomes A Newspaper Columnist! by lastpage: 10:07pm On Aug 14, 2011 |
All the years gone-by, OBJ did not write (about 4yrs now)! He could have written his "column" on Sahara Reporters, He could even have availed himself of the Nigerian Village Square (the likes of Pat Utomi, Abati, Wole Soyinka, e.t.c write there, l do too!) No, Baba wants to write in a Newspaper! How would WE then "appraise and critique" his write-Up? Please ask Baba to write in "Digital media" where "response" will be swift and fast coming! BTW: When you sit down and "tell a Story" like "Not my will or Nzeogwu, e.t.c" and some "paid reporter/writer" writes it down and edit it on your behalf, that makes you an "Author" (in the mold of the likes of Chinua Achebe, Wole Soynka, Reuben Abatti, e.t.c.), right? Well, everyone on Nairaland is then qualified to be called an "Author"! |
Re: Olusegun Obasanjo Becomes A Newspaper Columnist! by deenee: 11:54pm On Aug 14, 2011 |
carla2009: SPOT ON!, I am always amazed when Nlders (not making a sweeping generalization here) just make comments filled with bias. OBJ is perhaps the best leader we' ve had in years. People condemn him but lets be quite frank what exactly did Yar' Adua accomplish whilst in power ? He was the one that truncated the power station projects be refusing to disburse the last tranche of funds. I agree that his methods are quite crude but you need to be a have that kind of leadership trait to rule Nigeria. The same people are also complaining that GEJ is too soft. There is nothing wrong in him been a columnist. In the developed economies, former gang leaders, drug lords and ousted dictators write books and even host documentaries. Nobody is forcing you to read his column. As per the third term debacle. It still beats me that people are still asking for Baba's head for a proposal that would have helped us grow as a nation in the long run whilst a particular section of the country feels that it is their right to rule Nigeria for life! God bless Nigeria! IT IS ONLY WHEN WE FORGET ALL OUR LEARNING THAT WE BEGIN TO KNOW! |
