Hyundai's Approved Engine Oil: Engine Overheating. by Eitunuoluwa(m): 5:46am On Sep 28, 2022
Overheating can happen if you don't use the recommended oil for your engine. Lubricating the various engine's part isn't just the only job of an engine oil, it also absorbs some of the heat produced by the engine, making sure that none of the parts overheat. Using a thicker oil against the manufacturer's recommendation can result in less flow and the oil's inability to balance temperature. For the wrong application, the greater the oil thickness, the greater the resistance and heat generated.

All motor oil is rated based on its viscosity, or resistance to flow, and how it performs at temperature extremes. The ideal motor oil for your car is one that can withstand the hottest temperatures in your region while still being able to flow when the weather is at its coldest.

What does the letter and the number in' 5W-30, 15W-40, 10W-30' means?

The “W” stands for “winter,” the number preceding it indicates the oil’s viscosity (or thickness) at low temperatures (hence the W), and the number after it indicates viscosity at higher temperatures, when the engine is running.

The Shell helix branded lubricants will be the brand recommended by Hyundai and Hyundai recommends getting your oil & filter changed every 3,000-5,000 miles for conventional oil.
