Disobeying a direct court order is still a crime.

Labour disputes are never settled in court. Simply because the court cannot bar unions from protest through strike. If the court orders the call of of one strike, it will be obeyed. However a different strike with new demands will begin. All these gimmicks have happened before under Babangida, Abacha and Obj. Ngige is only reinventing the wheel, which we know does not kill ASUU strikes. A labourer is entitled to fair wage for his labour, and has every right to negotiate for it. The FG also has the right to sack all ASUU members, only we know they cannot recruit new ones because they do not exist. Minimum Qualification for lecturing is a PhD according to NUC.

Did Buhari not know when he devalued naira from 240 to 700 per usd in exchange for loans to build railway to Niger Republic that the workers wages will become meaningless?

How can a Prof., an erudite scholar of 20 years be earning N400,000 , about 600 usd per month, but an aid to Buhari earns N800,000 as basic. A mere seat warmer in the senate goes home withmore than N30m every month, and you say ASUU is your national problem.

You that is arguing just because you want to finish school. You do not realise that your own future is at stake. When you finish you get a job paying 30k per month when 1 usd is 700. How will you function without stealing wherever you are. How will you an employer cope with workers who steal everything in site due to your poor pay, since your customers have low purchasing power as Govt. has devalued their earnings to get foriegn loans at their expense.

Revaluing workers wages in Nigeria always starts with ASUU, after them teachers will rise up next. Blame the economically daft debt ridden govt. and CBN governor. Things must balance out, its simple law of demand and supply.

If we remove corruption, we'll have something decent. It doesn't have to be like Harvard, even schools in Germany and Holland are not like Harvard.

No we won't.

Slightly better? Yes. Good enough to be world beaters? No. Improvement in facilites? No. Able to do high grade research? No.

We don't spend much on educaiton in this country on a good day. That is the big part of the reason why our schools look bad.

3-4 billion dollars is what we spend on education. South Africa spends five times that...and charges high fees...yet you guys want us to have unis that look and surpass their own..on 3-4 billion dollars, and very low fees. It is not possible...and that is before we deal with the corruption.

When it was time to carry out an audit in UI, they said it won't work cos the auditor has gone blind cheesy
If FG were serious they could have dealt with these miscreants a long time ago but they are always careless coz the strike doesn't affect them.

No, the FG knows the problem, and they know what ASUU is asking for. The problem is, FG too does not want to raise fees...because it means they lose the elections.

Using 8 months of students life to press home a demand of 180% salary increment while hiding under revitalization funds
[/quote]

The alterantive is raised fees, or the universities continue to depreiciate...till the poor who benefit from them cannot compete with their half baked degrees with graduates from foreign or private universities...in the job market. It is already happening self.

You are petty too supporting injustice against the poor and suffering masses, as exemplified by ASUU, by a devilish government.

The ASUU is peopled by a principled lecturers with great dreams for the young wards under their care, and not swayed by their immediate entitlement and needs.

Not unlike some people here acting as anonymous spokesman for a government from the pit of hell.

God's unfailing judgement awaits you all.

Stop these noise! ASUU is fighting for their pockets and they're so free to do so, but stop painting lies as truth here.
Doctors in Nigeria should abandon the poor patients to die more in a bid to savage the health sector too.

If Govt is the one that asked for a stay of proceedings/execution and refused to obey court order like ASUU did with the order of the Industrial Court, SERAPNigeria, EiENigeria & all the other jobbers ipob obituary would have been up in arms. oga due process would have roared from all corners.
It was ASUU that scorned the Industrial Court, proceeded on appeal for a stay of an interlocutory order and all the pretenders to rule of law kept mute. The Court of Apeal advised parties should think of the nation & settle, but ASUU did not do this. Now the Court of Apeal has affirmed lower court.
Let me explain in layman's terms why ASUU's position is puerile:
(a) The case in court filed by the FGN is to submit all the issues between ASUU and FGN to jurisdiction of the court for adjudication.
(b) The FGN applies for interim order for ASUU to resume lectures WHILE the main case is being tried. That is; pending the determination of the substantive case.
(c) This is what we call INTERLOCUTORY ORDER in law. This order does not mean that the FGN has won or ASUU has lost. That will be decided down the line.
(d) Interlocutory orders are given to minimise damages or preserve the res as we say in law. The court was simply saying, do not let the sufferings of the students and lecturers continue. They can still be in school while we continue with the case and determine it. Everyone should see how reasonable this is abi? But ASUU refused to return to classes and instead went on appeal against an order to protect students & lecturers.
(f) In law an appeal does not operate as a stay thus ASUU should have obeyed the court order and then appeal. ASUU is represented by a SAN who knows better abi?
In conclusion, let us see if Falana SAN will still tell his clients to disobey the Court of Appeal. I have told you many times about the Falana wayo wayo. He won't relent until he is disgraced. The story of ASUU. The end.

My prayers is that this will be the end of ASUU. They've been striking for over 40 years

The funny thing is even if government adhere to their demands, this same ASUU will look for another excuse to hold innocent students at ransome. See my junior ones that are supposed to graduate this year wasting away because of one useless union.

Aswear make federal government deregister ASUU so that everybody go rest. You didn't work for how many months and you are expecting government to pay you your full salaries and benefits. No be juju be that shocked

I am not a lecturer, but if I was one, I would go to a private uni, earn a higher salary, and also get some better facilties.

At the end, it is the government universites that will suffer from continued poor funding. And most of the people who go there are poor people.

University costs money. For many years we tried to run them as cheaply as possible...and thus they became so substandard. If you want it to continue like that, fine. If you cannot send your child there tomorrow...fine. But if it is what you can afford, then sorry....your child is going to be disadvantaged vs the graduate from private university.

I honestly wish there was an easy answer to this matter.
No lecturer in public university wants to lecture in Nigerian private universities because their pay is poorer. Plus the public university lecturers enjoy other benefits like job security, more research grants and postgraduate funding from government.

Wicked people and selfsh people!

1.ASUU is fighting for the right for standard world class universities that can be attended by the poor at a cheap rate in addition to their pockets.

2.Same thing doctors do...we (I work in medicine, but private)...are fighting for your right to be treated cheaply in standard government hospitals, free of charge.

The problem is, for that to happen, funds have to go up drastically....because the 3bn dollars we spend on education, and the 3bn we spend on health is not enough for a country of 200 million (Spain spends 100 bn dollars for health, and for a country of 60million)

So, the alterantive is

1.Fees in both unis and hospitals go up... OR

2.Government taxes everyone...plus farmers, herders, beggars, street traders, agberos...to pay for free standard education at European level....OR

3.Government removes subsidy completley so that the market determines the price of petrol....

OR

You stop complaining about how bad hospitals and schools are and accept that is what we can pay for.

(I did not say we should excuse the corruption that is there o...before you start. It must be eradicated. But before corruption, we don't spend as much on healthcare as we should for a nation our size)

TETFUND shouldn't be just for erecting structures in the universities. Some resources from there should be channeled into equiping the labs and lecture halls.

ASUU asked for 1.3trillion naira to revitalize the universities, but government has spent over 2trillion naira since that time. I know at least 3 federal universities that have benefited from such efforts of government. There's gradual improvement in the system. Conditional technicality, the matter is not over yet. It all depends on FG and ASUU having a memorandum of agreement..

ASUU will call off, if it wants to appeal, the question is what happens after appeal?

If there is no agreement between ASUU and FG na back to square one again...

The court ruling today is clear, ASUU has to call off if it wants to appeal, so the strike will be called off conditionally, so that they can appeal..

The main thing is that the FG and ASUU should reach an agreement because if not, the strike may resume if the court of appeal finds that NICN erred
