Buhari rice policy is very good, most rice in the market are local rice although expensive. The incoming government should find a way to boost local rice production rather importing rice

Ok we agree that import restriction policy of Buhari led to inflation because local manufacturers can not meet up with the local demands. A reasonable incoming government will make policies that will increase local production and invest more on power sector. This is away of creating more employment and strengthening the naira.

Removing import restriction shows that Peter Obi is coming to kill local industries and free his ibo brothers who are mostly importers. Peter Obi himself is the largest single importer in Nigeria.

To make the matter worst, Obi supporters are using Peter Obi claim to tackle Dangote, comparing the price of his products to imported products sending signals that Peter Obi is coming to tackle Northern manufacturers.

Are you still on this story. Do you live in another planet?

With the same economic policies of Buhari since 2015, where is our economy? Your APC/Buhari shut borders for over two years in the name of “improving local production”. Where has that led us?

Your sitting government has policies in place that kill local industries and you feign ignorance. With all the import restrictions in place, how has foreign exchange improved? Anyway, you may not know anything about manufacturers.

I wonder how you APC supporters are so blind and never want to listen to superior opinion on how to make the economy better.

The problem is that most of you people are illiterate. Every Economist that knows his onions will tell you that one of the ways of the boost local production is to allow local producers to compete with foreign goods.

Economic liberalization is the only way you can make an economy grow.

When OBJ wanted to remove restriction on telcom, your ancestors were crying and rallying, but today, we now have a stronger telcom sector.

What happened when Buhari closed the border against foreign foods?

Did it make farmers richer? No

Did it bring down the cost of food? No

It only made us worse off. This should show you that you don't grow your economy by pampering local producers. It makes them exploitative.

How much is a bag of cement today?

Once you liberalize the economy and allow people bring in cheaper alternatives, Dangote will sit up. He will invest in R&grin which will make the cost of producing cement locally more cheaper.

He will also invest more in customer service, improving customer satisfaction.

Do you know why banks and Telcoms offer the highest level of customer services in this country?

Because you have alternatives and switching to a new provider is just seamless.

As an Economist and an Igbo man, I support Peter Obi quest to liberalize the economy for economic growth.

With this move:

1. The cost of food will go down, bringing down inflation

2. Local producers will sit up and stop depending on the govt to babysit them

3. Local producers will invest more in R&grin to produce goods that will compete favorably with the imported ones

4. Consumers will become sovereigns again (consumer sovereignty will reign supreme)

5. Businesses will no longer compete on price level, but on the level of customer service delivery, making an average Nigerian consumers more satisfied

6. Liberalization will grow our export and foreign by improving our production capacity, enabling our local producers to explore external markets for their goods

7. Liberalization will give me options and choices, giving more power to consumer than producers.

8. Liberalization will grow the local and export economy

I support Peter Obi's Economic and Monetary plans for Nigeria. I'll vote for him and the Labour Party at the Federal level and APC at the state level.

We rise!!!

It is expensive because it is not enough. What we need to do is to produce more by encouraging more investment not relying on importation

Relying on importation is an act of laziness of any government

Some of us that read economics as a course and further did development economics at masters level, if you ask me about import restrictions, I openly tell you it wrong.

Hit taxes on those importing, allow this items come in, you presidents of the nation should in your own way advertise and create more awareness on your local industries. What am I saying "rivalry"

Compare this two, I consume local rice that is stone free and I get that from my farm yearly. What makes it different from the foreign rice we buy out there? The local rice is far sweeter than the imported one.

When people choose to stop buying foreign rice, it will go itself but don't compare people to stop.

Your analysis will work in a sane society. In Nigeria where buying something foreign, especially if it's at a higher price (with higher duties the cost passes to he consumer), is seen as something fashionable and as a status symbol.

Obi is a confirmed confused element. For those who do not know Obi, he speaks with 2 sides of his mouth. You talked of turning Nigeria into a productive nation in 1 forum, in another forum you talked of lifting import ban.

you have to create an enabling environment for production first before removing restrictions.

That's what Peter Obi is saying. Solve power problem then remove it. Don't make people suffer unnecessarily

Is APC 7 years not been enough evidence to tell you import restrictions can't work ?

Look around you I'm sure you are foreign rice like me today even tho it's banned

. Nigeria loses 600 billion yearly we would have easily gotten from rice importers and invested into our local rice Industries

The last time i went to the market, i saw only local rice.

Some of the sellers do package local rice into the foreign rice sack and sell them as foreign rice.

This Buhari government actually helped in increased production of local rice. I have forgotten the last time i ate foreign rice

APC urchins have suddenly turned economic experts
Where was this their economic expertise when their party was destroying the economy in the past eight years?
I remember "border remains closed" chants
I remember "twitter remains banned" choruses
When Obi said he'll embrace contractionary monetary policy if he were president, an APC urchin came out to criticize him that Nigeria needs expansionary monetary policy to create jobs.
Now, most countries in the world are embracing contractionary monetary policy. Nigeria has also joined, twice in quick succession. Silence from APC zombies.
APC goons are dumb ignoramuses who see everything from the prism of partisan politics.
Know this and know peace.

did you read through recent news of bottling companies wanting to shut down because of high cost of operation, especially purchase of diesel?
If they are complaining then how do you think local firms will cope?

Why do you think you now buy 1plastic bottle of like for 200naira? Do you think you will buy a bottle of coke for 200naira they had cost effective source of power?

Do you guys have brains?
