In a video trending online , a McDonald’s restaurant manager could be seen beating a young man in a fight after he alleged that the said young man collected an underaged girl’s phone number while at the restaurant.

The fight seems to have been stired up by the attitude of the accused man who was hitting on a minor in a public restaurant .

Collecting the number of a minor is not an offence. Sleeping with a minor is. The restaurant manager is in for some trouble, if this is true.

A prior act that leads to a crime is considered and treated as a crime itself.

He’ll even put himself into more trouble if he reports this to the police.

Nope. Prior acts that "lead to a crime" are not crimes unless they're explicitly stated as crimes, or in rare cases, the prosecution can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the upcoming crime is the only thing the act could lead to. This is not one of those rare cases.

You are correct. Although I am not in support of the young man’s behavior but the Supreme Court in the case of Aoko v. Fagbemi has laid to rest the position of the law on this. The court held that no one should be punished for an act which is not prohibited by any written law and its penalty prescribed by any written law in Nigeria.
