We are OPEC member but nothing to show for it. Please watch Qatar World cup documentary to see what they call an oil producing country. It's really sad when people come online to make it sound like others are not enlightened.
Last week, the CEO of GTCO was discouraging Nigerians from migrating for greener pastures. He claimed to have been working professionally for 35 years. Nigeria of 35 years ago is definitely better than it is now. Did he study here in Nigeria or any of his kids live here?
These elites and rich folks always find a way to paint overseas bad so as for the poor and the masses not to dream of going.

God, I hate people that the first words that come out of their mouth is "poverty mentality". They always see everything through poverty! Sickening! Like people didn't die in USA, UK, Canada during covid-19 that killed Abba Kyari. Or, you were told that there are no facilities in some hospitals in Nigeria that compare to the ones in developed nations? You're ignorant.
And concerning security, people that die on daily basis through violence in USA far surpassed that of Nigeria. You're dumb, kid. America's death is more documented than Nigeria's. Can your President confidently come out to tell us the statistics of death in Nigeria? Do you know the number of Nigerians that have died due to the herdsmen incessant attacks? Do you know the number of Nigerians that have died due to UGM? Many undocumented deaths! |

mvem: You know that the expectation going abroad is great that when you go and see it is not that rosy, you can't project it to your people down home
Why?
Because the expectation is high and no one will ever agree that you are having it tough. So most times what you see people enjoying and all that is them trying to project something to you down home. It's very tough in western world. You have all the basics like water, light, welfare etc and you can make some money and send home
But what many can't understand is lifestyle is totally different. I can relate to him not being able to talk to anyone. They are very independent here and lack community life. That's why they don't play with mental health. The whole system fu*ks up some individual head. Also hardship is of another form that you can't relate until you see it. The normal hardship will relate to is being not able to eat well, having no basic amenities etc. But in the western world they do have it but in another form not what you can relate to
This is in no way to discourag your pursuit of the greener pastures but sometimes it is good to have a better context of all these so that you won't come and start writing epistle like the OP or me...it is a different world out here but still pursue your dreams and know that you can never replace home
He is not talking thrash about the society, he is just venting. Anyone staying or new to Europe or America can relate to him. Our societies are different so being real about this is not him taking it out on them
His venting is unreasonable. It's stale. |

Loneliness is one of the biggest problems facing migrants. If you have not lived abroad you will not understand .... the same way that those who have not travelled to colder climes cannot really understand how cold it gets in winter unless they experience it. One can only see things through his local culture and believe the same can apply abroad. If one has family and friends abroad ... it will not be as hard but .... friends and family may be living a long distance away and most likely not find time to visit. Thanksgiving Day .... tomorrow ... is the day when they make an effort to gather together.... then off they go back to their own little bubbles. If someone like OP does not have family closeby.... loneliness is likely to be a bitch especially if not the very social type and with heavy Naija accent. 7 Likes |

I’m totally zoned out , I work from home and most days I go by without talking to a single soul. I’m happy for my career but bring stuck in abroad for so long is not for me. This feeling of emptiness won’t end me Amen.
Just like the OP said I realised that finance is the reason most people don’t visit naija when they leave . No place like home. Moving abroad single is easier but it’s not worth it 13 Likes 1 Share |

NB Are Nigerians the only people emigrating to the West?
Go to the US, Canada, and the UK to understand that Nigerians are learners in migration.
These other immigrants particularly the Indians and Latinos migrate in droves, set up businesses, and taking up much of the business spaces while helping each other grow and expand.
Buy our own na "I want be the only one to succeed so that every one go dey worship me and if I fail in that regards, I'd start canceling and discouraging emigration over unfounded half-truths".
