In case you didn't know, Benin city was the capital of the kingdom, most Nigerians don't seem to understand that Benin city is to Benin kingdom what Abuja is to Nigeria. So the right phrasing is "Benin city where the king lives", the king of Benin kingdom lives in Benin city, but the kingdom has many other cities.

And when Benin fought a war, it was always conducted OUTSIDE the capital city, in the countryside, and its treasures remained secured in the Oba's palace which was an impenetrable fortress protected by thousands of soldiers.
