$800m rail will ease cargo movement – Lekki Port

[i]27th December 2022

Promoters of Lekki Deep Seaport, Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited, have said that the $800m rail connection is an integral part of port operations.

The Chief Operating Officer of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise, Laurence Smith, in a chat with The PUNCH in Lagos, said that the rail connection would ensure easier and more effective evacuation of cargoes from the port.

He disclosed that the firm was developing plans to fund the $800m rail connection from the seaport to the rail line.

Smith said 30 per cent of cargoes are evacuated in Europe by rail while 70 per cent are evacuated in North America.

According to him, evacuating cargoes through rail is cheaper and reduces congestion on the road.

“It is cheaper because you can get 100 containers onto a railway system as opposed to one truck carrying a maximum of two 20-foot equivalent units out of the port. So, we are really championing that but we have to look at the mechanisms of funding the rail. The rail itself is quite expensive. So, we need to understand how those mechanisms will work,” he explained.

He also said that the first phase of the truck park would be ready by the end of the first quarter of 2023.

The Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise, Mr Daniel Odibe, said the management of Lekki Port has obtained Federal Government’s approval for the railway from the port to the proposed eastern coastal rail line through Ijebu-Ode.

3) Rail lines: There are two rail lines that are meant to service that area: (a) The Green Line of the Lagos Metro system, which will run from Marina to the proposed Lekki Airport and Seaport. Provision has been made on the Eleko Road for the rail line to run on the median. There's also going to be a link from the Lagos-Calabar national line to the Lekki Port.

Peter Obi signed an MoU to build a monorail in Onitsha in 2010, 12 years after, there's nothing to show, he scammed the people of Anambra and got away with it. When he loses by February, I hope we won't see him hiding himself anywhere in Lagos, otherwise, we would chase him back to Agulu barefooted to go live with his unknown gunmen.

If the electorates were to vote mainly on merits and antecedents of the candidates, INEC wouldn't need to conduct any election because it would be a no-contest and walkover for Tinubu, but I've come to realize Nigerians are motivated by premordial sentiments rather than what a candidate has shown capacity to do.
Hence, they only vote for whomever they 'like' out of considerations other than the capacity to deliver. Even the so-called educated ones are not left out, I deem those ones even far worse than those doing so out of sheer ignorance.
Imagine those who left a great administrator like Awolowo, who made the SW region the standard of good governance (1st skyscraper in Nigeria, 1st TV station in Africa, free basic education e.t.c) for Shagari, are the same folks trying everything to resist Tinubu, the governor who laid the foundation for modern Lagos (BRT, Eko Atlantic, Lekki free trade zone, LAWMA and other institutions, e.t.c) - the most progressive state in Nigeria by a stretch, that's to tell you people's ideology hardly change, it's a generational thing.
I hope we get it right this time around if truly the progress of the country is all we want
God bless Nigeria!

Nyamiri people will run away for this thread

They can even say it was Marwa that did the rail ...Sanwoolu just came to commission it...

Most of them came to Lagos state with Nylon bag and one clothes ...now they can have roof over their head yet ....it was the governors of Lagos state that did it....

Obi had his Christmas in Lagos and Kogi state ....peacfully....why he no go do Christmas for Anambra state ....?

A lot of Nyamiri people are trying hard to claim Lagos state as their state of Origin as some Yoruba people are doing...

Let them try harder. ... Because no Local government in Lagos state will issue a certificate of Indigeneship to any Nyamiri person...

Nyamiri people selling gala and soft drink on the third mainland bridge are enormous as if make dem turn am to part of Anambra state.

Chest beater people

Lol!!! Please have mercy on them. They are trying to get state of origin because they know that IPOB will spoil market for them with the Biafra agitation. We have already decided that only 1 out of 2 million applications will get a visa after they get their Biafra. And that will be for 1 week stay as tourist. We will charge them a million dollars at the airport if they are coming for business. None of them will get work visa and none will get permanent residence, not to talk of citizenship. They deserve all these draconian rules.

Awesome! They should remember to build the bridge that connects Ondo state directly to Lekki, Lagos.

Please bring your investments to Lagos. Thank you

The General foolishness of agnado miscreants can be seen from this thread, where they are masturbating foolishly on a project that has been discovered to be a white elephant project.

The fact still remains that the sea ports in the SE and SS regions, serve a better purpose for the "IGBO" race who control, the commercial sector of that shyt-hole. If you look keenly agbado miscreants HATE Peter OBI because he specifically talked about, shifting dependence on Lagos for Import and export purpose. He said he will decentralize, the Port Business and make other regions experience "commecial boost" with robust sea ports in their regions!!

Now i ask...

Why are agbado miscreants celebrating something very medicore??

The Highest importers and the largest container destination in that shyt hole is the SE.!!...So why are agbado idiats celebrating foolishly.

Ambode has already said it..and that thought process got himsacked as Governor.

But Peter Obi, will make sure that OIL COMPANIES will have all operations in the region of operations.
Peter Obi will also make sure that the "fishing industry" will be revamped", as the SS region, has a super abundance of fishing potentials!!
Peter Obi will also make sure that all the deep sea ports in the SS region will work effectively and receive good patronage!..From SE businessmen who want to exit that uselessly celebrated, slum called lagos..spits

So for the zombie crew, the SEA port is only viable, when it has patronage...and with establishment of different seaports along the coastline of the SS...that project will be an Oduduwa shrine!

I don talk my own finish...OYA KEE YASEF!!

So let's deal with the usual arguments.

1) Why Lekki? Why not Niger Delta? Well, why not both Lekki and Niger Delta? The Lekki Port has been on the drawing board for decades and it was proposed by the Lagos State Government, but it is not the only proposed deep sea port. There's also the new Bonny Deep Sea Port https://punchng.com/construction-of-462m-bonny-deep-seaport-takes-off-this-year-npa/ and the new Ibom Deep Sea Port http://www.idsp.ak.gov.ng/

So why not Lekki?

2) There's only one road into Lekki and it will lead to problems for people living in Ajah, Lekki Phase 1, etc.

Firstly, you need to know that the port is being built in Ibeju Lekki, which is far away from Lekki Phase 1, Ajah, etc.

Secondly, you also need to know that there isn't only one way to the port. There is the Epe-Ijebu Expressway, which easily provides a link to the hinterland (through Ogun State) from the port. The Ondo State Government is also working on the Araromi-Ibeju Lekki Expressway, which will provide a link from Ibeju Lekki to Ondo State.

4) Dedicated truck lane: The road will also have a dedicated lane for trucks (just as you have your BRT lane), so that they won't cause congestion on the axis.

Rather, he was funneling money out of Anambra state treasury through public-private partnership!
