Alaska is very close to russia, Russia don't need missile to travel across the earth to strike military bases. They will launch it from a region close to Alaska
Not that only 20% of nuclear bombs can be used practically. Nobody will use ALL the nuclear bombs just 20% will be used
So it make sense that Africa won't be damaged.
Only issue is that weather patterns will Change and radioactive pollution in the clouds will block sunlight and cause cooling which will cause loss of crops and very cold weather.
But as far as land is concerned Africa will not be largely affected.

However African weather and ocean life will be affected.

Tanzania was attacked during ww1, horn of Africa suffered the same.

Affricans were recruited in large numbers to fight both wars due to colonialism.

Although times has changed now it doesn't mean africa wont be involved
