For those who are saying that the new CBN extension would afford politicians enough time to change their stashed old notes to the new notes, let me tell you that you are making a mistake.

Suppose a politician has ₦1BN old notes he intended to use to buy votes. If he takes them to the bank to exchange for the new notes, he would be told there's not enough cash, and that could only credit it to his account while he can withdraw less than ₦1m in cash or come back or go to the ATM point to withdraw ₦20,000 everyday grin. That's why CBN intentionally printed limited notes and no bank would be that foolish to give all their stock of the notes to any big man or politician.

That's the whole essence of cashless policy in the first place.

So you can see that it's still completely impossible for vote buying by cash to take place.

The extension doesn't in any way favour politicians. It's the ordinary Nigerians who are not hoarding cash it will bring reprieve to.

Imagine that all the money politicians have stashed to buy votes amounts to ₦800B, CBN didn't even print up to that, so where would they get it from??grin

They are selling 100k new notes for 2k yesterday in Sabo in Ibadan.

What makes you think politicians won't have had access to it already.

You people need to grow up.

Even if the deadline is 20th February, no politician will be able to change his cash because it's impossible. Emefiele is just using their head.
After all, he will say he has heard people's cry and extended the deadline.

OK, can ₦100K help a politician buy votes?? That would only be able to buy 20 votes. We're talking about ₦1B and above here, and no bank would dare risk the wrath of the CBN by "selling" all of their cash to a single politician, because the CBN knows how much it gives to every bank and limit of cash withdrawal to every single person.

Access to how much of it?
Election is happening simultaneously in 774 LGA and you are talking of buying votes with how much?

Comrade, it's not about urchins but trust.
Do you know that during this so-called scarcity, that some useless bankers have released a huge part of the limited cash to these politicians?
Extending the period would afford them the opportunity to get more.

You are right but how much are we talking about?
You need ar least 1billion naira of new notes to stand a chance.
For me, if you give me money, I will collect and still vote the candidate of my choice.
You will not be there to when voters are casting their votes.
Tinubu will end up wasting his money.
APC delegates collected his dollars and voted for him during the primary because the North has already agreed to support Atiku of PDP.

Do you mind explaining how politicians will get enough cash to buy votes?
Why is Tinubu crying?
Do you know what he does not know?

Would any politician go to the bank to deposit money personally into his own account?
Is that even possible?

Those stashed cash you're talking about would be deposited into different accounts or better still be deposited by different people into a single account. And forget it, those thieves (politicians) have a way of accessing raw cash, anyday, anytime.

It's just that in Nigeria, it's unfortunate that everyone has a price, even the so-called Emefiele.

Shame!!

Because you are enlightened.
Thankfully most OBIdients are.
But can you imagine someone selling his PVC for 2k?

My annoyance is the ineffectiveness and poor implementation.

The currency change will affect everybody plus Tinubu but it would not curb vote buying, especially now that the date has even been extended.
