Prepare for ‘Bring Back Our Old Notes’ protest —Group The North Central Youth Stakeholders Forum, has called on Nigerians to prepare to embark on a mass “Bring Back Our Old Notes” protest, should the naira scarcity persist beyond February 5, 2023. The group made the call on Saturday, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Mohammed Mohammed, in response to an appeal made by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, to the Central Bank of Nigeria not to extend the naira swap deadline beyond February 10, 2023. Atiku’s statement came after the CBN on Sunday, January 29, had extended the deadline until February 10. He said there should be no further extension of the deadline because “vote riggers are seeking to push the CBN to extend till after the election, when they would have achieved their evil plots.” However, describing Atiku’s statement as “callous, reckless and insensitive to the plight of the masses,” NYCSF called on Nigerians to observe the situation before staging the protest. The group also added that over 80 per cent of local governments in the North Central and across the country had no banks or ATMs. “We call on all Nigerians to remain vigilant to the direction the country is heading in the present circumstances, and to prepare to embark on a mass ‘Bring Back Our Old Notes’ protest, in the event the insufficiency of the new notes persists beyond the 5th of February. “Over 80 per cent of local governments in the North Central, and indeed the entire country have no banks. The NCYSF wishes to remind the general public that their enemies are not hidden as can be seen from the recent statement of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.” NYCSF also called on affected families and communities to hold the former vice president, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, and other collaborators responsible for their sufferings, while also calling for the immediate resignation of Emefiele from his position at the CBN. 2 Likes
