Imagine the people who were that close to the 'dying human god of the christians [and they do not consider themselves as idolators, when they are clearly worshiping the man Jesus]' hearing something completely different and foreign to what was actually said? This is the same here with the pagan arabs of Makka. They heard what they wanted to hear, which was different from the truth, because the following verse criticized their gods. Who do we expect the house fly to side with except the one with an open sore? Consumption of alcohol was finally prohibited.
