Obaseki orders re-assessment of Miss Precious Umoru by Edo State College of Nursing Sciences

The Edo State Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has ordered the re-assessment of Miss Precious Umoru to begin her training at the Edo State College of Nursing Sciences, Benin City, the Edo State capital.

Miss Umoru was admitted at the College and was initially advised to withdraw after preliminary assessment of her physical condition, which was not disclosed at the point of admission.

The governor, upon learning of the case, intervened and requested that another assessment be conducted and that Miss. Umoru be provided with all necessary support for her condition for the re-assessment exercise.

The Admission Committee had deemed her eligible for admission based on her cognitive function and score on the CBT exam, but upon her arrival at the school premises, the hostel manager observed that she had unstable gait and tremors.

A meeting was called between the Counselling Department of the College and Miss. Umoru’s parents, where the nature and history of her condition were reviewed to reach a fair decision on her physical fitness for the College’s rigorous training.

As part of this process, a preliminary assessment was conducted which had suggested that she might not be able to withstand the physical rigours of midwifery training.

The rescheduled assessment will take place on Thursday 13th April 2023 and the public will be provided with the necessary updates on the exercise.

We want to assure that the College will not intentionally deny anyone an opportunity to get the best training and capacity enhancement in healthcare services.

If she truly has unstable gait and tremors, then it is advisable she pursues another career because those disabilities will seriously affect her ability to complete her programme and even function as a nurse or midwife. Nurses and Midwives need to have steady hands when giving injections, setting IV, taking birth deliveries, etc. There is no need applying emotions to the matter or "human feelings". The same emotions will not get her employment or do her job for her.

He obviously means we'll, but those "human feelings" might end up costing some patients their lives at the end of the day. If the school has deemed her unfit for nursing practice, the governor's request for reassessment may end up making the school to give her a go ahead just to prevent themselves from ending up in the governor's bad books.

School of nursing in Delta state is a fraudulent, they don't let students see their results, they even go ahead to to collect more than half a million from some students b4 or after the probational exam to retain them why people that are intelligent are left to go home, this is very very bad for our health system.
