The president-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, that he was not a party in the drug case that was said to have been filed against him by the United States Government in 1993.

Tinubu, in his response to the petition by Labour Party and its candidate, Mr Peter Obi, said since he was not a party in the criminal case, he was eminently qualified to contest the February 25 presidential election.

Shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tinubu the winner of the election, the LP and its candidate approached the tribunal for an order to nullify the election.

But Tinubu and Shettima in their response to the petition urged the tribunal to dismiss the petition by Obi and the LP.

Tinubu said in his reply, “The pleadings in paragraphs 28-31 of the petition hinge the alleged disqualification of the 2nd respondent (Tinubu) on a decision of the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division in case No 93C-4483 delivered on October 4, 1993.

“The 2nd respondent herein named was not a party or defendant in the said case No 93C-4483.

“The 2nd respondent was/is not one of the listed parties in the decision Illinois, Eastern Division in case No 93C-4483 delivered on October 4, 1993, was not rendered by a Court or Tribunal created pursuant to any written law in Nigeria.

“This Honourable Court lacks the jurisdiction to enforce the purported judgement of the court in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

“The pleadings in paragraphs 28 –31 of the petition do not disclose a reasonable cause of action cognizable under Sections131, 134 and 137 legislation or instrument under the provisions of a law in Nigeria.

“The decision of the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division in case No 93C-4483 delivered on October 4, 1993 is/was not in respect of any cause of action or offence created by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

“The case of the petitioners as pleaded has not disclosed any disqualifying factor as prescribed by Section 137 (1)(d) and (e) of the Act of the National Assembly or law of a State.”

As an Obidient, I believe in honesty and truth. So, I believe Tinubu to an extent.

Tinubu said he wasn't involved in drug dealing.
However, I doubt he is not aware where the money came from. Which make him equally culpable. Or, how did he come about having 1.8million dollars in his bank account. What was his job, what was his businesses?

My guess is, Tinubu must have been on top of the food chain for initial suspects in the drug case not have mentioned his name. You know, drug dealers go to any length to eliminate snitches. The US government must have also been waiting for more evidence and witnesses to nail him, which they obviously didn't get.

In this election petition tribunal, Tinubu might as well get off the hook like in previous court cases.

A civil case.

Same thing every bank in the world has encountered at some point.

Owning an investment house, all kinds of people would come in as clients.

If one is arrested for a crime, the government would have to confiscate all suspected proceeds of the crime.

This would include money in such financial institution.

Of course, not being the only client the finance house has, government cannot claim EVERYTHING in the financial institution but they may attempt.

A court case would be instituted to determine what sum if any government can lay claim to.

In such a case, the convener of the financial institution would make his defence.

If LP or PDP can catch wind, then they have a chance of winning at the Election Tribunal. But since APC has planned to RUN 🏃‍♂️ with this victory, both opposition parties should forget about it and wait till 2027 general elections.

Tax money was taken from his account, not drug money. That’s why it is a civil case. No case involving drug money is treated in civil case. It is a criminal case when drugs are involved.

Compass investment was registered in the US as an investment company and anybody can invest his/her money in his company, drug dealers invested their money, they had issues with the government and got their money forfeited.
It was the money in his account that was convicted and not himself!.

From what I have read, it says that the funds in the amount of $460,000 in account 263226700 held by First Heritage Bank in the name of Bola Tinubu represent the proceeds of narcotics trafficking or were involved in financial transactions in violation.....................

Secondly, if indeed it was tax, then pray tell why everyone is saying that it is drug money and Tinubu hasn't at least sued one person for defamation?

How much was Tinubu earning then that $460,000 will be tax and from what?
