A woman named Hanaa, 29, has been accused of killing her five-year-old son, Youssef, at their home in the village of Abu Shalabi, Egypt.

The boy’s uncle found body parts in buckets at the family home and alerted the police. Hanaa allegedly hacked her son to death with a machete, butchered his body in the bathroom, and cooked his head and other parts of his flesh in boiling water on the stove before eating them.

When questioned by police, Hanaa admitted to eating part of her son’s head because she wanted him to stay with her. She claimed to suffer from a mental illness and did not intend to kill her son. Hanaa and Youssef had been living alone since she separated from her husband, who claimed that she knew exactly what she was doing.
