Strategic experts consider facts and not emotions. Russia CAN'T use Nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Russia isn't the only nation with Nukes. And even the balance of power is overwhelmingly in NATOs favour.

And there's no giving the US a dose of it's medicine, if the US wants it can arm the entire NATO with nuclear weapons and more NATO nations have nuclear weapons compared to Russia and allies(Belarus and China if you consider China Russia's ally). China won't go to war cos of Russia, but NATO would go to war for each other.
