Because your likes have failed to do the needful in our health care systems

Hmmm it seems you don't know this man Mimiko when he was the Governor of Ondo State.
His administration established Health Centres in all local government in Ondo State.
He established Mother and Care hospitals and also introduced the monitoring of pregnant women anti natal treatments
Do you know his administration established the University where he gave this lecture ?

I'll just say this....a good health care system costs a lot of money.

You pay for it by high and heavy taxes....or by USA style medical fees.

At the end of the day, if the government wants to keep doctors and nurses and pharmacists, and radiologists even....they have to start finding money to pay into the system. A lot of money

And the thing is, say we should pay higher taxes, or higher fees, and people would shout poverty....so we have to take more loans.

Let me tell u something:
Nigerians are the most stupid set of humans when it comes to taking care of their health.
They wud rather spend money on beer, hair, gals, boyfriends, party, clubbing than visit the hospital.

So forget tax.

Understood. But, what did he do to help the situation while he was the Governor? A typical Nigerian, always pointing towards problem without any effort to proffer solutions.

BTW, our problem is not peculiar to the health sector alone. We need to tackle our problems head-on, especially with new hope, faith and passion for the project Nigeria. Successive governments are to blame. We hope is will stop henceforth.

However, Nigerians are terrible people who have little or no fondness for their job and responsibility, rather, they are concerned about the salaries and income. Imagine the investment on the education of these health professionals... This lack of commitment is everywhere including the health sector and sometimes one wonders how and why some of our health practitioners are so dispassionate and unethical. If babalawos will save lives and stay faithful to our national cause, isn't it better for government to support them?

Don't tell me Doctors are paid peanuts o! We are all Nigerians and some of us have never benefitted anything from government, to say the least, a job!

We must stop the habit of jumping ship when it's down. Let's fix our country together!

The problem of Nigeria is simple - SOCIALISM. It's unfortunate, but the PEOPLE of Nigeria love socialism.

IbeOkehie:
Even if a worker lives below their means and invests diligently in Nigeria over the long term, there's still a high probability they will not accumulate enough for retirement. I define a poor retirement as a significant reduction in lifestyle after the end of regular, full time work.

Reasons are many and most of us know it, that the Nigerian political-economy is STRUCTURALLY unsound and thus tends to produce poverty, corruption and violence for EVERYONE, whether working or retired.

The main aspect of that structure manifests in the SOCIALIST basis of the economy, which derives legitimacy from the evolved and popular SOCIALIST culture of the Nigerian populace.

It has been proven by extensive and rigorous research that the likely precursor factors of a prosperous economy are capitalist free markets, demographic homogeneity and democracy. It's unfortunate that NONE of these are present in Nigeria.

Until Nigeria changes it's tendency to SOCIALISM, the economy will always produce poverty for the vast majority of the people whether they're workers, business owners or retirees.

Socialism seems morally right and thus is popular among human beings while free market capitalism seems wicked and selfish and thus is unpopular. The irony is that socialism produces poverty while free market capitalism produces prosperity. undecided

Scandinavian nations generally have the highest standards of living in the world. Many people mistakenly think they're SOCIALIST countries, when they're actually FREE MARKET CAPITALIST nations. The Prime Minister of Denmark had to explicitly explain this. A Scandinavian nation like Sweden has more of a CAPITALIST FREE MARKET ECONOMY than the USA.

Systems matter. Ideology and culture are crucial. Free market capitalism, homogeneity and democracy. That's what Nigeria needs to implement and within two generations it will become prosperous beyond what anyone thinks is possible today for both retired and working people and their families.

Thanks.

The rate at which people make some foolish utterances even while having passed through the system they claim was subsidised.
When you've been exposed to public funds unchecked, that you squander and loot you'll have no regard for what honest people go through.
In this medical school I've got guys that have spent nine years and dey still have two more to go, so when people who are supposed to represent us well make this kind of foolish utterances can be annoying.
You should be thinking 🤔 of what is causing the emigration and how you'll profer solutions to curb it and not demonic statements suggesting you wanting to enslave the members of this noble profession.

Nigerians should stop behaving ignorantly.

The UK have brian drain in the health sector that's the reason they have open immigration opportunities.

UK trained doctors are emigrating to Australia for greener pastures yet nobody in UK comes out to talk nonsense. That's the reason they UK have brian drain

Nigeria should employ doctors from other African countries through immigration pathways and place then on same salary scale which Nigerian doctors receive. There's no need for talking bullshit all the times about doctors travelling out.

Train the native doctors now, they can't leave cos of patronage....

We have Skilled/Traditional Birth Attendants SBA/TBA

China, India e.t.c has trado-medical practice as a whole sector

DON'T MIND THE MUMUS.

MEANWHILE EVEN THAT CHINESE AND INDIAN MEDICINE ARE DERIVATIVES OF ANCIENT AFRICAN TRADITIONAL MEDICINE.

THE FIRST SETTLERS OF EVERY CONTINENT WERE BLACK AFRICANS.

THESE COLONISED MUMUS DON'T EVEN KNOW THAT AFRICA TAUGHT EUROPE MEDICINE, INCLUDING SURGERY AND ADVANCED MEDICAL RESEARCH, FIRST THROUGH THE NUBIANS AND EGYPTIANS (WHO WERE BLACKS) IN ANTIQUITY, AND LATER ON BY THE WEST AFRICAN MOORS WHO RULED MUCH OF EUROPE BETWEEN THE 7TH AND 15TH CENTURIES - 800 YEARS.

IT WAS THE MOORS WHO ACTUALLY BROUGHT LITERACY TO EUROPE, AND LED THEM OUT OF THEIR DARK AGES AND INTO THEIR RENAISSANCE, WHICH WAS THE SPRINGBOARD FOR THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.

THE MENTALLY COLONISED GOVERNOR'S DISMISSIVE REFERENCE TO AFRICAN MEDICINE DISPLAYS THE GREAT HEIGHT FROM WHICH AFRICANS HAVE FALLEN IN THEIR OWN ESTIMATION OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR CAPABILITIES, DUE TO INTENSE, SEVERE COLONIAL BRAINWASHING THAT HAS MADE THEM BELIEVE THEIR PAST WAS ONE OF SAVAGERY AND IGNORANCE, RATHER THAN ONE OF ENLIGHTENMENT AND CIVILIZATION.

PITIFUL.

DISGUSTING.

A Kenyan trained doctor earns more than a Nigerian trained doctor, why would that Kenyan doctor or other doctors from other African countries prefer Nigeria to UK, US, Canada etc?

Yes, Kenyan doctors are paid higher compared to Nigerian doctors but there are others African countries that Nigeria pays higher than and they skilled and knowledgeable. Zimbabweans doctors practice in South Africa.

Those Kenyan or other African doctors also have opportunity to migrate to the UK, USA, Saudi Arabia or Canada and elsewhere. That should be immediately obvious. Come on, that's not too hard to know.

The long term solution to ALL the problems in the health sector is the same as in ALL other sectors of the Nigerian economy. That solution is simple - privatization of the entire sector AND deregulation of prices in every aspect of healthcare, from training to drugs and medical equipment to actual service delivery. It worked in telecoms, broadcasting, banking and cement. It's very likely to also work in the supply of petrol as recently promulgated by President Tinubu, so it's very likely to work well in the healthcare sector.

I know that healthcare may be a service that many feel should NOT be completely dictated by the free market. Privatization encourages competition, so the objective may be to find a public sector way of engendering competition. If Privatization is too scary, is there another option? Do it by changing the law to make healthcare a Local Government or State Government exclusive item in the Constitution.

That way we can observe COMPETITION among the various States or LGA's and find out over time what kind of policies and systems work out best and there will be a gradual adoption of those methods.

My people, Nigerians and also Americans and Europeans travel to INDIA for medical care. There's nothing that India can achieve that should be beyond the ability of Nigerians. Government should just leave the healthcare sector alone and watch a miracle unfold. Nigeria will become a healthcare destination within a generation.

Good Luck to Nigerians.
