This forum aims to provide valuable support to incoming students, who are coming to Canada with or without family, by equipping them with essential information before and after their arrival. The inclusion of diverse experiences from fellow students across various provinces will greatly enhance the assistance provided to incoming students. |

Greetings to everyone! I'm delighted to offer my assistance to all. Allow me to share my journey: I submitted my application to Humber College in December 2022 and received admission in January 2023. By March, I had settled the first-term tuition fee. In April, along with my family (spouse with an Open Work Permit and two children with study permits), I applied for my study visa. I managed this entire process independently, without the involvement of an agent. This serves as a testament that you too can navigate it on your own, saving both money and unnecessary stress. We completed the upfront medical examinations, which were approved on April 21. Biometrics were requested on April 13 for myself and April 14 for my spouse. By April 22, we received a Biometric Verification Letter (BVL). On April 24, our visa document numbers were updated in the tracker, indicating the approval of our application. However, the OPR (Passport Request) was not received until June 15 In order to expedite the process, I initiated a series of scheduled emails to Nairobi, and finally secured our OPR on June 20. We promptly submitted our passports via courier and received them a week later. Our travel was booked for August 19 via British Airways with a layover at London Heathrow Airport for 8 hours, ultimately arriving at YYZ on Sunday, August 20, at 3 pm. Passing through the Port of Entry was straightforward. The immigration officers requested our marriage certificate, the children's letters of introduction, my letter of admission, proof of tuition payment, and the enrollment letter. Once verified, we obtained our permits and proceeded to our Airbnb accommodation. Currently, we are actively searching for an apartment, and I will keep you all updated on our progress. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or inquiries. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Update on our housing: We got an agent “Jay” who helped us get a 2 bedroom condo apartment in downtown Toronto, a 15-minute walk to my school. We got the apartment on September 12th, and made 4 months' payments (1st month and last 3 months. 🤷🏻♀️) we moved on the 14th and our rent is due every 15th of each month (what we signed for) The rent includes all utilities (water, heat, internet, electricity, and hydro) except for insurance. ($3k) It’s a good location close to everything!!! 3 Likes |

G8tfulSol:from what I learnt from other posters you'll need your passport stamped by the Benin republic immigration to show that you entered the country legally then you can proceed to fly(I have it in mind that you have you ticket(s) handy already) Safe Journey |

B13578: No, I wasn't asked for IELTS, just my school certificate, and transcript, and I used WAEC results in place of IELTS. Although I’m not sure about now. |

I'm finally rounding up with school this April and I can't wait for it to be done!!! My course is a year but it's accelerated to 8 months. Also, I'm not going to do another course to earn three years of PGWP 🤧 I'm going to get my PR before the 1 year PGWP I will receive runs out 😎. |
