You can remove subsidy on everything but you see education and health, either of them must not be tampered with.

That's about the only thing the impoverished masses are enjoying in this country.

If Nigerian universities want to compete, they must be autonomous, and students must pay their fair share

Nigerians are the only class of people who want their country to overtake the US, UK and Canada, but not ready to pay their fair share like citizens of those countries.

Also, Nigerians demand instant change and never ready to make sacrifices for gradual change.
Are you normal at all?

He is normal, free education is a fallacy, the government cannot fund it, the student cannot afford it and the standard is too low. When was the last time Nigeria produced intellectuals such as Achebe and Soyinka?

The university system is a conveyor belt of poor-quality students. Let the student that can afford it go to university, it will reduce the university demand and focus on apprenticeship

China has the 2nd largest economy in the world, when she started her own reforms, it came with extreme pains. Now, they are producing almost everything the world is using.

Reforms must bring pain. We cannot continue in the old ways. If all the previous administrations had introduced these reforms, the current president will just build on them.

Nigeria economy has been badly managed, there cant be instant comfort. There will be pains before it get better.

We aren't against the reforms, eventually everything must change. The case here is that the the priorities are misplaced and senseless policies being put in place. Petrol subsidy was removed. Good, now the people are suffering from the insane prices without palliatives, what happened to making all refineries functional before removing the subsidy in order to drop the costs of fuel. Isn't that what a right thinking person would do? How will bringing students loans that are highly unaccessible and hiking the price in tution fees whilst still leaving the government funding in education assist in making the educational sector a better place? These are the issues.

You still bringing pity to the table. You now for a better educational system.

It's not an issue of pity, it's an issue of common sense. The government doesn't have any mechanism in place to justify some of the things they're doing. Will your president stay and receive health care services in Nigeria after he makes the sector unaffordable for the average citizens??
Will any of his close relatives school in our local universities after he has rendered our institutions unaffordable for the average Nigerians??
What happens to reducing the cost of governance of the nation??
Or you think that our cost of governance is affordable?? We shall see as things unfold anyway.

The bolded have student loan to access as well in Nigeria.

International student fees pay for about 3 local students fee in the UK. UK is using their schools to generate foreign exchange despite most of the courses being rubbish.

When our universities are well.positioned, we will attract international students who will serve as another means of generating foreign exchanges

Nigeria cannot continue on the old paths and except changes we all scream for.
Have you gone through the conditions to access these loans. Why are you people acting like this?. Hold the government accountable and call them out on their bullshit and stop support asinine things

The political class have always been able to afford the best, and it still does not stop them from taking beneficial measures.

I don’t buy the idea of bringing the corrupt practices of politicians into the picture. Do you want a competitive degree or not?

Do you want us to use the points you raised to deny the nation of a quality and standard education? We should have worst systems because our leaders are bad.

You’re hyper sick. Tell these nonsense to a man who earns 30k minimum wage with 4 children to train in the university. How do idiots like your reason? There’s a process to be followed before policies like this can take place. Nigeria isn’t ripe for it yet

30k minimum wage and they had 4 kids?

The government need to enact birth control with relation to wage. This are reason why I am pro abortion.

How can someone earning 30k have 4 kids and still plan to get them to university?

You might be seriously annoyed or agitated at his views, but learn to respect other people's views however wrong it is. Just do the little you can to enlighten them and move on. Trading insults with them does no one any good, you'll just end up falling out with others over things that are not justified. It takes more than just fees hike to make our institutions competitive. We shall see how things unfold. My additional comments was on why it should be the citizens alone that will bear the burden of making Nigeria great, are the leaders not one of the citizens?? If your president has headache tomorrow, he will go to Europe to get proper health care irrespective of what our health care sector becomes. You're too one-sided in your argument jor.

You seem to be quite slow in your thinking. So let me help you. Stop comparing us that our minimum wage is 30k to the U.S where they can easily access student loans and easily get jobs and where the pay is far higher than ours. University education is not for all.

U keep sounding more stupid as u talk so stop commenting. Is 30K even enough for a child? What do u mean?

University education is not for all, and for that u deny a large proportion of the youths that education. Then how would the better tomorrow come for this nation?

By the way that adage “University education isn’t free for all” is for foolish minds. That’s why everyone has a right to education in the constitution.

It’s not denial. It’s about raising the bar. We have attached so mich emphasis on university education and why we naturally feel it’s mandated and compulsory.

So because we want to appease all, we should keep churning out substandard and less competitive graduates.
