Compare his CV to oby ezekwesili then come back

What's Ezekwesili's highest degree? Masters.
So, what are you on about?

If she was so good, Obasanjo won't have put her in Solid Minerals before moving her to Education.
Even in Education, she was a failure. She brought about the longest strike in the history of government secondary schools.

You are talented in ignorance.
The person chosen to function in acting capacity is the longest serving of all the CBN Deputy Directors.

Longest serving does not translate to competence. Economist are better.

As usual, the person you respond to has no clue what he's talking about. The most important financial appointment is the governor of the CBN, not the minister of finance. A finance minister's role is to source the funds to pay for the budget allocated by the NASS in its role as the legislative branch, not to determine economic policy. The role is therefore more a matter of balancing revenue-raising and borrowing. A minister of finance can certainly suggest to the NASS that certain items be prioritised over others, or that particular government entities be sold, etc., but that is merely a suggestion, which the NASS can ignore as it sees fit. What the role really needs is a person with backbone to push back against all the white-elephant and pork-barrel proposals that other ministers and legislators will insist on. This matters because Nigeria's debt-to-revenue ratio is so high that the only way to "finance" such proposals will be to print money, which will further fuel inflation.

The real question about any candidate's fitness for the role is whether that person has any experience with the financial markets, and knows how to raise capital on them at the lowest possible rate (and when the rates being demanded are too high to justify borrowing). Wale Edun not only has a Masters in Economics, he was also Commissioner for Finance for Lagos State from 1999-2007, so he clearly has experience raising funds through international bond markets. In addition, that Edun served right under Tinubu for 8 years suggests that he is close enough to Tinubu to reasonably expect Tinubu's backing when he starts saying "No" to the various pet projects of other ministers, APC senators, etc.

Thank you for the enlightenment.

So, who determines economic pol8cy?

Oboy here we go again

It's about to go down... Accounting is a noble profession but appointing an accountant as a minister of finance shows this people don't know anything about economics what so ever

The minister of finance is the chief economic development policy formulator of the country...
It has little or nothing to do with accounting

A minister of finance should be minimum a PhD holder with 10 years minimum experience in a policy formulation and vast knowledge and experience in macro developmental economics

This is why Buhari failed , accountant as CBN Governor with mere MBA as highest qualification and an accountant as minister of finance again with MBA as highest qualification

Banking is micro economics, minister of finance is macro economics they are not similar at all...

It's like making a Med lab scientist a CMD of a general Hospital

This is the 2nd time you are making this assertion. Emefiele was never an Accountant by profession or qualification, he is a Banker.
A CBN governor should be an Economist, while a Finance Min could be an Economist or Accountant. NDIC head should be a core Banker

The minister of finance in Nigeria also serves as minister of economy or as they call it coordinating minister of the economy

They provide the fiscal framework for the government to achieve their developmental goals
Revenues is handled by FIRS under ministry of finance
Accountant general balance the revenue n expenditure

The minister of finance is manly outlining fiscal policy to stimulate growth of the economy

This is a very simplified version
Oga you just de yarn dust. You don’t even know the difference between an Accountant and an Economist. An Accountant should be Minister of Finance while Economist CBN Governor. An Accountant can even be both and succeed. Accountant specialization is more vast than an Economist. They also work in Economist environments. Economist create policy, accountants implement it. Economist do not even know how to balance books or the impact of their policies. Accountants do!

Forget all the fancy PhD here and there. Accountants are very capable. Pinnacle of Finance profession. Any industry and any specialization, they will do well if you find one that knows what they are doing. Tinubu is an Accountant, that is why he understands impacts of Economic policies better than even Emefiele.

Now you get my point. If you like have 5 msc, 3 PhD even be a professor, so long as the person you're reporting to is not sound enough (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) just forget it. If we must succeed as a country, we need to do away with 1999 constitution first.

A medical lab scientist with postgraduate qualifications in hospital administration will make a better leader of a teaching or general hospital than a medical doctor without training in hospital administration. Our hospitals and healthcare system generally has remained abysmally poor because of poor leadership skills of successive medical doctors who have led the system over the years!

If you ask them they'll blame the government for poor funding, but the truth is that no matter how much the government throws into our healthcare system, without good administrators managing the system, we'll continue to record poor healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

I wish Tinubu's government will be wise enough to change the status quo by appointing competent and unbiased administrators who are not medical doctors to run our health sector. But alas, they'll continue to repeat the same mistakes with no better result!

So, who determines economic pol8cy?
The President can make economic proposals and use the megaphone afforded by the office to pressure the legislators to work to realize those proposals, and the President can also appoint the ministers who will implement whatever proposals are passed into law, but ultimately it is the legislature that actually passes bills, including the financial ones. The speaker of the House and the leader of the Senate are therefore key players here, and even if Peter Obi had somehow managed to pull of the miracle of actually winning the election, the fact that both of these two positions would remain in APC hands would have doomed him to a single utterly failed term anyway, as they would deliberately have frustrated any proposals he would have put forward. An Obi "mandate" would just have meant 4 years of total paralysis and mutual finger-pointing, with the only real "benefit" being the ego satisfaction it would have given to many Igbos finally seeing "their son" in Aso Rock.

At the end of the day, the President is - at least in theory - only a chief executive, responsible for implementing the legislation passed by the people's representatives. Under a system of division of powers, a President's power to deliver on promises of change goes only as far as the power to get majorities in both houses of the NASS to go along with the promises. Here is where Tinubu truly stands out from Atiku and Obi: say what you will about how exactly Tinubu has managed to obtain so much leverage over the APC reps and senators, but the fact is that he does have it, and when he wants something, he knows how to get enough of them to agree to it. Atiku couldn't even manage that much with Wike and the disaffected governors within the PDP, while Obi's case would have been hopeless as I've explained above.

What's your problem with an accountant and why saying an accountant is not a manager?
A chartered accountant is not just your regular accountant and someone with banking, taxation and financial knowledge with relevant experience can serve in any of the above position.
I'll be very angry if you are not a chartered accountant and just pretending you know what they know

mrvitalis:

Fical is minister of finance
Monetary is CBN

None of the two should be handled by an accountant

The economic team needs an accountant which is who... Accountant general of the federation

Working in a bad have 100 years experience can't qualify you for being a CBN governor or minister of finance they are not the same at all

Two different worlds apart one is micro economics the other is macro economics they use different principles theories, approach

Micro is purely numbers, profit and that

Macros has to do with a whole lot more

Political climate, population demographics, external influence, global market analysis, government policies and goals

This is why Buhari failed... I warned before we are warning again

An accountant should never be CBN governor at all worse is minister of finance

Get a manager, or economics, risk analysis, even a marketer is better fit than accountant

It will be foolish to do away with ALL the old political friends and families.

Please don't do that if you find yourself in the corridors of power.

The medical doctors are the problems here . They are at logger head with other professionals in the industry over hospital administration even when its glaring they are very bad administrators . I mean hospital administration is different from being the medical director and there are professionals whose duty is to manage health facilities.
