Most part of Edo State also have this kind of soil, I am not sure they are as prone to this kind of gully erosion as depicted in this news.

SOUTHWESTERN Nigeria is more prosperous than barren southeast. That's why southeasterners flocks to southwest for survival. southeast are ECONOMIC REFUGEES in SOUTHWESTERN Nigeria

Meanwhile, and proeast are too consumed with "expert" prediction that Lagos will be at the bottom of the Atlantic in 29ys from now.

Mother nature is busy sacking them from their own region over their evil and barbarity .

Mother nature at work .

The evil of sacrificing millions of babies from baby factories is what is causing this.

Heaven is angry and reclaiming the land back from them. River Niger will extend into all of Onistha soon just as they were using baseless predictions that Lagos will be under the Atlantic in 29ys from now

Thank God that our beloved former governor Chief Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano wisely relocated our Anambra International airport from Oba to Umueri if not erosion would have swallowed the airport since. That Idemili area is erosion ravaged zone. The federal government should please come to the aid of Ndi Igbo to ameliorate the situation as that Onitsha-Owerri road is an important federal road and the cost of repairing the damage is too much for Anambra state to bear.

Nah UN and World Bank go repair that road when your Biafra govt is established.

The soil that I see there is red soil which is claylike in nature, so why then does it wash off so bad to the point that the report says up to 100m? 100M is too deep to be filled back, so what really causes it?

Water looking for ways to empty into River Niger

The topography and geology, simple. The lack of rocky materials particularly in elevated formations. It happens.

Edo State has a much more low lying topography thus water runoffs are less erosive. The gradient off the Niger River going eastwards and northwards is much more acute.

This is what I can find. I think it is true because these lands had been intact since olden days, and with lush vegetation, still held its integrity.

Was that the lies your fore-fathers told you, and you are so dumb to realise before oil was discovered, the North and SW fed your fathers with cocoa and general agric money. Your fore-fathers became greedy when oil was discovered in the SS, which ofcos is not even your region. At the time oil was discovered in SE, Lagos was also discovered to have large deposit of oil. Tell me what good thing come out of your land-locked states, and i will tell you what SW contributed to the general growth of naija to make it what it is today.
Try read history.

The basement complex of southwestern Nigeria hosts Important deposits of gold, in the Ile-Ilesha schist belt and tin-tallum-niobium in the pegmatites of Ijero and Iregun. Gemstones such as aquamarine, zircon, rutile and emerald are illegally mined at Ofiki and Olode. Occurrences of nickel and chromite are known in Wellesha area. Feldspars and quartz occur widely in Ogbomosho area.

Extensive deposits of talc are found at Apomu and tiesha Feldspars and quartz occur widely in the pegmatites of Olode, Osogbo, Iwo, Iregun and Ijero. There is an important deposit of marble within the migmatite-gneiss complex of Igbeti. Construction aggregates are widely distributed.

Yes, science can least explain that. However, spiritually, natives of Oba community are known for rituals (blood money). So, all individuals that have been forcefully forced into the soil as sacrifices are by all means possible, seeking their way back to earth.
