Can Civil Servants Get Married In Today's Economy? by Dimaya: 6:24am On Jul 05, 2023 |
I am writing this post in response to my initial post that made front page yesterday in which a lady said she won't get pregnant until her husband starts earning over 200K See here: https://www.nairaland.com/7729988/girl-wont-get-pregnant-husband/ People's reactions got me thinking heavily because nobody addressed the obvious elephant in the room: unreasonable civil service salaries In the original post's video, it was established that Nigerian civil servants with a degree, start out on level 8 and earn monthly salaries of 75K. And it takes as much as 15-20 years before monthly earning come any close to 200K. With the current high cost of living (particularly food, transportation and housing), it seems the government doesn't expect civil servants to be able to support their families on their salaries. This begs the question: does the Nigerian government pay enough for civil servants to get married? And also, if you're a married civil servant earning less than 100K, how on earth are you able to meet your obligations today? How? the video referenced in the previous post: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t66DkQl0j50 1 Like |

Civil servants can marry, have one child and live average decent life. It must not be a very expensive life. Average is also Ok.. 1 Like |

If you are a civil servant, go get a serious business to add. Even if it means learning a trade. With your salary alone, you cannot achieve anything in life. 3 Likes |

All these salaries have been rendered useless by incessant inflation, poorly thought out inhumane (insensitive, a crime against humanity) govt policies. Ideally whenever these inflation hike, and devaluation occurs, salaries supposed to automatically go up so the people can cope, afford things, maintain their purchasing power. What most people are living is not called life, it is something else worse, for gawd sake majority of Nigerians can no longer afford the basic needs of life! Struggling to feed, struggling to cloth! Okrika is not a quality life! Abeg All these are miserable quality of life. 2 Likes |

Na wa ooo Even me, who is running various kinds of business and also an employer of labour, won't think of marriage now if I was unmarried talk less of civil servants earning peanuts as salaries. Since my wife refused relocating with me back to Nigeria, I was unhappy at first but right now I really appreciate her for that (My queen was Smarter than me from day one). But naija favoured me tho. How are people with family couping. In Abj here they are selling fuel for 700 per litre and every stuff is now sold above the roof. Even my side chicks are now billing me anyhow. I think, I should become celibate this period, by depositing my d*ck in the bank, because as far as it is dangling in between my legs, I will definitely fornicate. I have already learnt and mastered the skill of urinating with my nose. So having no d*ck for now won't be a problem. My d*ck love women so much that i got an erection last weekend watching an ugly drawing of a naked woman done by my 4 years old nephew. My d*ck is a SIMP. 1 Like |

squash47:the inhumane policies are getting closer in the way it affects people, before it usually affect married people with family, now single single people are beginning to adjust themselves (they are even adjusting the quality and ration of their meals) to cope or get by. Many are no longer recharging DStv compact, confam just to adjust to these policies. The situation is not improving. The keep on adjusting and adjusting I pity people still planning to marry multiple wives and birth multiple kids in this kind of situation. 4 Likes |

No, please stop propagating poverty in the name of God will provide. Having children of getting married is not an achievement. It's high time society learns that. There are millions of unemployed graduates in Nigeria, the future looks bleak . I don't think anyone in his/ her right mind would bring poor children into this world to suffer given the present and likely future conditions at hand. 2 Likes |

Dimaya: I am a level 10 officer going to 12. My salary is #127,000. In fact,I thank God i came from the private sector to join them. With the way things are,I doubt if anyone can survive without stealing. My only saving grace is that,i had some investments before I joined them. This is not a good place for anyone who has an ambition. I have planned my exit already to concentrate on my side income. 1 Like 1 Share |

To solve the problem, go to your village or free house and open a mini Mart "A foolish man always complains his pocket has holes but a wise man uses the holes to scratch his private part " |

One day, the govt of this nation ll wake up to cater better for the masses. Level 8 presently suppose they collect like N1.5m if they want to enjoy normal life. Your wife no fit wan give birth via CS make u no cough at least N300K to N500K. As a civil servant, you can't access basic life support stuffs. It's pathetic in Nigeria. That's why I support cutting the earnings of politicians. Let everyone feel the pain together. And we should be killing those guilty of corruption. |
