ebonyi people wants to have their own airport. We want our destiny and economy in our hands not in hands of others.

Ebonyi people are hungry and poor, they need food and not airport, that’s why no airline has landed at that useless ebonyi amusement park airport

It is becoming glaringly clear that Umahi borrowed and wasted billions of naira on an airport that all analysts proved wasn’t going to be viable. Today it is now clear to everyone that umahi wasted borrowed billions on ego trip project when most ebonyi people are poor, uneducated and hawking almost everywhere in Nigeria.

Poverty rate in ebonyi is over 80%. when the idea of the airport was first muted, some analysts advised that umahi should use the said funds for the project and invest heavily in human resource development and education, but he shoved it aside, today no Nigerian airline want to fly to ebonyi simply because it is a very unviable route for airlines.

What do you suggest for the present administration in ebonyi state as regards to the abandoned airport?

It is a good thing that he did it.

At least, Nigerians now have a physical example of a White-Elephant Project.
A costly legacy project that was supposed to yield lots in return,, but it was really not necessary, and thus, it became an abandoned facility..

Feasibility Studies and Economic Impact Studies are very necessary when planning some projects..

Umahi got it wrong on this one, he should have done rail instead of airport since Ebonyians are most farmers and with train they can easily distribute their farm produce to other regions.

Same thing I said on another thread. Some people abused me. Airports being built by these governors are just to embezzle money from the construction contracts. Enugu airport is just 1 hour 30 mins away without traffic

Not even upto 1 hour 30mins. Without any traffic jam. You won't spend upto 1 hour. Just keep on wasting the scarce resources.

This is the major reason why SE governors have to work together for regional planning, why waste billions on airport when enugu airport is very close, kpatakpata u for use a fraction of that money build more roads to link enugu to ebonyi...

Who is this bush man beating empty chest?

Have you seen how airports looks like in advance countries?

Is it this low-budget poorly designed color-riot over-lit structure that you claim is the best in SS and SE?

Then you must be a mediocre for spewing this trash grin

worksmart:
Every Igbo man should be hailing Ebonyi Airport , the terminal building of Muhammadu Buhari Airport Ebonyi State, is at least 3 times the size of Enugu and Anambra airport terminal buildings combined.
It is an international airport of world-class standards with the capacity to handle the largest aircrafts in the world.

When full funtional it would be the first genuine fully functioning international airport in the SE and SS. It has the potential to boost ecnomy of the entire region.

Ebonyi state has overtaken all othe SE states for infrastructure , insulting Umahi won't change that.Just be happy for Ebonyi people, because their success is alaigbo success and Nigeria's success.

Is anyone really surprised at such a boondoggle project? I am sure the supporters of the then Governor of Ebonyi State, the devil himself, Devil Umahi, were elated and actually believed that their man was doing a good thing for his people. But unfortunately even having witnessed so many such "baits and switch" projects by the politicians, especially during election time, they still bought hook line, and sinker their rhetorics. This is exactly the reason why politicians take Liegerians for fools because you keep falling for their cheap tricks every time. Now, all that money spent on that project is a complete waste. And the sad part is that he the governor knew the end result of what he was doing. He was quite aware that the Fulani Government of Nigeria would never grant a license for the airport to operate as a viable one more or less as an international airport. But his foolishness, stupidity, and his need to serve his Fulani masters clouded his better judgment. This is one of those life lessons that one needs to learn if he's wise if not, he would keep making the same mistake repeatedly!

Convert that into a train station and construct rail lines from Aba and Onitsha to Ebony State and it will be an ever busy place.

They will always get legislative approval because most legislative chambers in our country are rubber stamp, even if feasibility study says otherwise they will go for it because they are not after the economic value of such project but how much their kickback will be. Come to think of it, if our leaders are serious, how much does it even cost to industrialize compare to wastage on irrelevant projects.

It isn't working for us.

The system as designed isn't working for us. Lawmakers are supposed to...you know..."check and balance" the executive. But it isn't working. Our institutions are very weak or don't exist at all.

You wrote about unserious leadership. I think the real problem is with unserious followership - a followership that has delinked the quality of life from electoral choice. This separation of actions (and choices) from consequences is why we are where we are today. But we are not likely to change anytime soon.

The beatings and suffering will continue until morale improves.

I agree with you that leaders are reflection of their followers because they are from the society but overtime in our dear country I have realized that the wish of the majority populace is usually subverted by the few elites, the most challenging aspect is some of the masses who lose the voice when they got little gratification from the oppressors, they even sing their praises saying people agitating for the right things to be done are unnecessarily overzealous. Yes, the way democracy is run in Nigeria it will never work for us. The nation is facing a difficult time, the leaders are telling the masses to endure and adjust till succour comes but they are not ready to endure or adjust anything but live the extravagant life, the long convoys, contract inflation, jumbo pay etc that we have known them with. The Nigeria of our dream is a very long journey that we have not even anticipated how to get there but wandering about like Israelites did.

They should just convert the airport into a shopping mall. Rent the shops and make some money from it.
