both the high and mighty and the low and weak do patronize them.so they should be given freedom to practise their trade. Many countries even encourages them as a source of foreign exchange earner. most especially during world cup tournament.Better than commiting rape.

I really don't want to get into the argument of whether it should be legalized or not.
My concern is that legalization will not work.
The simple reason is that prostitution is not an orginsed trade in Nigeria. it is rarely practiced as a profession. It is often practised as a hobby or part time trade. Its legalisation will rarely regulate it because the practitioners who will be subject to its regulation are a very minute portion of the the practitioners. So whether legalized or not, it makes very little difference. Hence, instead of expending energy in this regard, their are more productive initiatives that can be pursued by the NASS and Mrs. Fashola.

God forbid this move.

I expect Christian Association of Nigeria and Chief Iman of Moslem to fight against this bill no matter what the advantage is.

Argument for legalization has nothing to do with how organized or not a certain issue is. One could even argue that legalizing will spit some needed organization into the practice and help society better monitor the activities of those who work the trade and those who patronize it.

Also, there has never really been a time in history where prostitution was considered a career choice, not until now(as we see in parts of the developed world where there has been some organization injected into it). That does not however hamper the argument for legalization in anyway as any career can be described in much the same way. It is really up to individuals to decide if they will follow a path for life or for 2 minutes.

On the issue of more productive initiatives, I would ask you then how you feel our society can put an end to the human rights violations against those in the sex industry and our women in general. Keep in mind that over the last 51 years, we have signed bill after bill to help but have never really directly put in place mechanisms to help these women, and those in the larger populace, the ability to take their own destinies into their own hands.

How does that affect the price of garri or rice in the market?  mtschw

Long and short of the story, it will eliminate the possibility of the decimation of those who should be helping to bring rice and garri back home for children  like you.

Keep the pressure on Mrs Fashola and God bless you.

There are lot of things to say regarding this but it will be better if I shorten my points. Firstly, why would OLD men who think they went to school raise this in the first place? A country where we are the 7th poorest nation in the whole Planet Earth? even New Zealand that has no single natural resources aren't there? We have lot of population in Nigeria where female are the majority and yet you want to legalise this? Doing this, means that all the poor people who are cautiously avoiding things like this would accept it with their two beard hands,  Meanwhile these senators have their children in oversea riding all the best cars and schooling in the best schools in the world,

Secondly, Nigerian culture for any reason can not support this ,  Did any Nigerian glamour for this? Then what are THESE silly old fools disturbing themselves about? Is this the employment the whole NIGERIANS are calling out for?? Is this the abiding to the so call minimum wage they are fighting for

This country is not developed yet and we want to give ourselves more hand to non develop nation for the rest of our lives?

This country is known for good people and good nation but definitely not bad people bad nation,  The white mentality is different from ours which is why a child of 8years can sue the dad to court for beating him/her,  and yet we want to bring in their silly God forbidden Culture? Should we always imitate the bad things from the WEST??

I think we Nigerians are giving more opportunities to other group just like BOKO HARAM to rise the more by this silly idea. They've been against Western Education as they claimed and now its their culture Abegi, make we sit down pray for this country,  This nation is trying to head to its division if we don't know!

Peace!

While one shudders at the obtuse condemnations that trailed that call by Ekweremadu, for the legalization of prostitution-both from logic and base considerations- one is constrained to imagine that this debate resides only for the consumption and engagement of the distracted and fickle. At a moment when, worse moral conditions, both in range and impact, perpetuated by the political class and with active conniving impotence from the mob and crew, still, is in ascendant, then it bears to reason that crass misplacement of priorities, as customary, may have informed the attention.  With an economy and security still prostrate and upturned, under the watchful eye of rabble-rousers, and a clueless and jaundiced cabinet, one wonders if a traveling troupe of clowns and the eejit, won’t pass for better company than the lot that sits as government-we must do away with these distractions.

I wonder who go win grammar between you and that Obaigena senator. Bruh chill out na. Your engris is too much
