Can we be reminded that another legacy of French imperialism in Africa is the CFA Franc. Idris Deby of Chad had previously mooted the idea of doing away with the CFA, as done by Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria and their economies were better for it. So if indeed the whole aim is to fight against French imperialism is means all the countries of the CFA region must rise up and reject the CFA and they can only do this through military coup? Is that what we are implying?

It appears those who support the coup in Niger are saying only the military boys can fight imperialism, if that was indeed true I would have expected Mali and Burkina Faso to have dropped the CFA by now, after all you should not pick and choose which imperialist legacy you want to keep

Niger Coup Leaders Agree To Open Talks With ECOWAS As Sanctions Bite

In a surprising twist, the Niger coup leaders have told an Islamic delegation from Nigeria that its doors are now open for dialogue and a diplomatic resolution of the crisis, amid economic sanctions from the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

“We have agreed, and the leader of our country has given the green light for dialogue,” said Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, Niger’s recently appointed prime minister.

“They (Muslim delegation) will now go back and inform the Nigerian President what they have heard from us…. we hope in the coming days, ECOWAS will come here to meet us to discuss how the sanctions imposed against us will be lifted.”

That itself is to show that they know they have committed treason against the constitution of the country.

Like Idi-Amin of Uganda, they come in with celebrations by the ignorant citizens who soon become the victims of dictatorship, by the time the citizens realise and try to run out of the country, it is always already too late.

In this current case of Niger, it is the coupist that will attempt to run out of Niger, which is already too late.

The President would resume his tenure in the next few weeks, and the coupists would all be prosecuted for treason.
