Not just skyscrapers.. Even some beautiful houses in towns are having fences taller than the houses. These are structures that are supposed to make the place beautiful and eye-catching. |

Raydos: Stop saying nonsense.. Those areas are commercial areas with apartments and not residential areas. Billionaires and millionaires abroad also fence their houses. The Nigerian cities with fences are more beautiful than eu:ropean cities without fences. 2 Likes |

Because we are in a zoo... truth be told private building can do whatever they want with their building. I'm more worried about our roads, not gutter, no maintenance, poor quality roads built with sand and mud etc... Raydos: |

Raydos:You are right on the traffic and nightlife no-fence can bring, but in the face of threat to security like suicide bombing etc. the fence being a barricade for control and restriction can help deter or slow down the attack, better still, make it easy to detect the threat before it gets closer. I believe that as general security improves in the country and with deployment of modern security systems, soon such structures won't require fencing. 3 Likes |

SmartPolician: It's about privacy. The fence prevents people from entering your compound, turning your compound into waste dumpsite, turning it into illegal toilet. e.t.c. You and Raydos are not wise. 3 Likes |

The same reason one slowpoke would agitate for the masses to be given a chance to breathe (just breath ođ). Nigerians are the most class cautious people ever. The rich oppress the poor and the poor oppress theirselves. You cant get into those places looking tattered. No be naija man say "shoe get size". The poor man may be considered in other parts of the world (as regards welfare) but Naija man find it easier to exploit the poor and also oppress them. Bitter but it's the truth. |

Raydos: The major reason why they buildings you call modern are not fenced is because of economy of space. I hope you know that the white house is fenced and can afford CCTV cameras and more. 2 Likes |

If you have it in affluent areas and I have a vehicle - a Jalopy , I can still visit being a riff -raft. Either you allow all or allow none. Plus some areas are zoned industrial so technically nobody would visit during the evening to make it happening. The reason itâs fenced is purely a security measure. The Nigeria factor people will break in and steal. People steal cables from a functioning transformer. CCTV ainât gonna stop nobody from stealing 1 Like |

ruggedtimi: That's a fictional story. If there were no doors in houses in Africa then there won't be indigenous words for door in the indigenous languages. Why would Eu:ropeans sail through the oceans when they could just land in Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria e.t.c or whatever those countries were called then and head downwards to West Africa. No eu:ropean sailed to West Africa. You better stop believing their fictional stories and fictional books they are fake stories. 1 Like |

codemaniacs: This is a 19th century British colonial drawing claiming an execution in Benin City, and showing its houses with no front doors: As the UK Guardian Newspaper reports, ''When the Portuguese first âdiscoveredâ Benin City in 1485, they were stunned to find this vast kingdom made of hundreds of interlocked cities and villages in the middle of the African jungle. They called it the âGreat City of Beninâ.... Indeed, they classified Benin City as one of the most beautiful and best planned cities in the world. In 1691, the Portuguese ship captain Lourenco Pinto observed: âGreat Benin, where the king resides, is larger than Lisbon; all the streets run straight and as far as the eye can see. The houses are large, especially that of the king, which is richly decorated and has fine columns. The city is wealthy and industrious. It is so well governed that theft is unknown and the people live in such security that they have no doors to their houses.â In contrast, London at the same time is described by Bruce Holsinger, professor of English at the University of Virginia, as being a city of âthievery, prostitution, murder, bribery and a thriving black market made the medieval city ripe for exploitation by those with a skill for the quick blade or picking a pocketâ.'' https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2016/mar/18/story-of-cities-5-benin-city-edo-nigeria-mighty-medieval-capital-lost-without-trace 5 Likes |
