In 2016 the Late Govenor Ajimobi proposed a 38 Kilometer Light railway and later signed an MOU with China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) for the construction of a 38-kilometre light rail system in Ibadan.

An agreement was signed in 2017 and It was due for completion in 2019 and was meant to be completed within 24 months.

It is a shame that the project did not continue despite all the agreements.

Govenmor Makinde should revive the project

What does Oyo State need that project for?

You think say to build railway and maintain it na moi-moi?

Railway is capital intensive and you need an overpopulated state like Lagos, Rivers and Kano to find it useful and be able to maintain it.

Don't be deceived.

It is not all that capital-intensive
It is cheap to build and maintain
And environment friendly

It reduced traffic and help keep the road free of potholes
Furthermore, it can last for 100 years after construction.
and generates income for the government.

When you factor population and landmass you'll discover that rivers and kano are not densely populated compared to lagos.

Or even Anambra state

Makinde preferred the Huge park projects instead.

So he focused on that.

The project can actually work because even though Oyo state is very big, over a small area is densely populated.

The 42km light rail will be the densely populated area.

And Oyo is more populated than Rivers state.
