Revelation 2:24 (NASB) “But I say to you… who have not known the deep things of Satan.”

Jesus spoke these words to the faithful in the Thyatira church. Just what are the “deep things” of Satan?… By its very definition “deep things” are something beneath the surface… something hidden… something secret.

The “deep things” of Satan are all around us… they are even in the church… undetected… Jesus said so. The lack of power in the church, and the shallowness of Christianity today, are the direct result of the shallow concept of sin… and a shallow concept of holiness and righteousness. In general terms “the deep things” of Satan are evils that appear good… sin that is in a righteous disguise… flesh activities that are called Spirit… hidden sins and activities that are labeled “Christian”… Satan is always a deceiver… we forget that… His motive is to deceive. He presents evil as good… Paul in 2 Corinthians 11:14 tells us that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

It is very interesting that in this present day there is increasing “angel” activity. Christians aren’t going to be deceived by demons appearing to them, but angels are another matter. Satan’s angels of light do not appear in the guise of the demonic. What they say might even sound good and reasonable… but it is evil. This is another feature of the “deep things” of Satan… The Thyatira congregation had a false prophetess in it… a seducer of the saints…through flattery and sexual lust. Satan will hide a pint of lies in a lake of truth… and those lies, when mixed in it, will go undetected. Those lies will sound so scriptural… so believing… but they work death.

Satan is a master of “flattery”… The definition of “flattery” is “to shower praise and attention upon in order to gratify the recipient‘s vanity” … He flatters people with “plenty” … with “promises” … Ministers are flattered by their large churches… large crowds and large offerings… They flatter their congregation by giving them that which attracts them and keeps them coming back…

Churches have become places where the sheep are entertained… sheered… pampered and sent home happy under the motive we are “doing it for Jesus”… Flattery is one of the many “deep things” of Satan… It seems today that Christians are just seekers of sensation… This is not the kind of Christianity that Jesus died and shed His blood for.


The New Testament church, which the Holy Spirit so jealously guarded, was a church where believers dropped dead for their lies and unbelievers, seeing the power of God, “dared not associate with them.” Paul states in…1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (KJV) “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” Paul is talking about the gospel of salvation that had been hidden from the princes of this world… profound truth that was revealed in righteousness to those who love God.


Paul said that his speech (message) did not come with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. The “deep things” were revealed by the Holy Spirit who had direct access to the knowledge that was in God’s mind. As our relationship with Jesus grows, the Holy Spirit shows us God’s counsels and plans and ways. Satan cannot tap into the mind of God…

We are living in troubled times… We must make choices… It’s either the deep things of God or the deep things of Satan… If there ever was a day when we need to know our Bible, that day is today. Jesus said that one of the great evils in the last days is “deception”… Scams abound… Lies and deceit are everywhere… Religious scams and lies are the worst kind… Why? Because they prey upon the spirit of the truth-seeking saints…Satan empowers his “angels” to lie and to deceive. Christ “anoints and empowers” to heal the broken-hearted… and to set the captives free…
