Chief Jerry Nkeweshe, the Owelle of Onicha Olona, has expressed deep concern over the troubling allegation of bribery against Judges of the Delta state Governorship Appeal court judgment that was delivered in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The controversy stems from a leaked audio that has been widely circulated. In this audio, a staunch supporter and senior member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), who also holds the position of a former three-time state house of assembly member representing the Warri South West constituency, and was recently appointed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the chairman of the Delta state Security Trust Fund. Barrister Daniel Mayuku, can be heard making disturbing claims. Mayuku allegedly stated in the leaked audio that three days before the pronounced judgment of the appeal court, they had seen and known that the judgment favored Ovie Omo Agege based on fact and available evidence that they used their influence and connections to change the judgment in favor of the PDP governorship candidate Sheriff Oborevwori against the true picture of the case

Daniel Mayuku in the leaked audio further claimed that the Court of Appeals is highly corrupt and expensive it is the only place where they have fear, as the Supreme Court is already under their control and they have no concerns or challenge about the Supreme Court. Furthermore, he threatened that if any unfavorable verdict is delivered, they would take drastic measures to shut down the country and put an end to democracy.

The implications of such allegations are serious and far-reaching. They strike at the heart of the judiciary's integrity and have the potential to erode public trust in the judicial system. Furthermore, they cast a shadow on the validity of the judgment in question and call into question the impenetrability of the judicial process.

Owelle, in his statement, emphasized the gravity of the situation and underscored the importance of addressing these allegations with the utmost urgency. The integrity of the judicial system is fundamental to the functioning of a just and fair society, and any indication of impropriety within the system must be met with decisive action.

The allegations made in the leaked audio demand a swift and thorough investigation to ascertain the veracity of the claims and to uphold the principles of justice. It is imperative that the relevant authorities take this matter seriously and commit to a transparent and impartial inquiry. The probe should aim to uncover the truth and hold accountable any individuals found to have engaged in misconduct, ensuring that the sanctity of the judiciary is preserved.

The potential repercussions of this alleged misconduct cannot be overstated. If left unaddressed, it could compromise the public's confidence in the judiciary and undermine the rule of law. The rule of law is a cornerstone of a democratic society, and any erosion of its foundations poses a grave threat to the fabric of the nation. Therefore, it is incumbent upon those responsible for upholding the principles of justice to act decisively in response to such serious allegations.

A thorough investigation into the matter is necessary not only to uphold the integrity of the judiciary but also to send a clear message that any form of corruption or tampering with the judicial process will not be tolerated. The investigation should be carried out with diligence and transparency, providing the public with assurance that the rule of law will prevail and that justice will be served without prejudice or favor.

In light of these concerning allegations, it is essential for all relevant stakeholders, including legal authorities, the judiciary, and law enforcement agencies, to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of ethics and accountability within the justice system. This commitment must be backed by concrete actions that reinforce the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, reaffirming its role as a pillar of justice in the society.

Moreover, this incident underscores the need for robust safeguards and oversight mechanisms to prevent and address any attempts to compromise the integrity of the judicial process. It is imperative that measures are put in place to detect and deter any form of undue influence or corruption within the judiciary, ensuring that it remains a beacon of integrity and fairness in the administration of justice.

The implications of the leaked audio and the allegations it contains are deeply troubling, and they demand a resolute and unequivocal response from the authorities. Upholding the sanctity of the judiciary and preserving public trust in the legal system are indispensable to the maintenance of a healthy and functioning democracy. Therefore, addressing these allegations with the seriousness and urgency they warrant is crucial to safeguarding the fundamental principles of justice and the rule of law in the society.
