O ti late already. The gravity of this problem is now staring them in the face. A country where leaders go for health tourism abroad but thinks the dilapidated healthcare system back home will encourage health care workers will be motivated to stay back.
Undergraduate medical students are already preparing for foreign exams in their final year. Once they are done with internship, they are off. Some don't even do NYSC again before moving.
Nigeria indeed is lacking medical personnel and the fear of the brain drain JAPA is the beginning of sound brain functioning now.

This government push to boost doctor production in universities is a much-needed response to the healthcare workforce shortage. It's a positive move, but emphasis should also be on maintaining high-quality medical education to ensure competent professionals.

It an apprentship system and most of what they do come with experience.
So if those that need to pass the knowledge down all ran away.what do u think will happen in the long run.

Yes !!! They would have been intake then ....But now have begin to see the effect of that choice ...I'm in another country doing the same now .....I remembered vividly what they said in the news paper ... ...Apart from U.I the others went on making money off people especially Unilag ....
Now they don't have competition they can continue to admit 10 students per semester and start crying to federal government for Salaries only for 9 of those students to come and Practice I the U.k were medical education is not free .....
The Lack of forward thinking and Foresight Leadership is a problem in Nigeria ...

Federal Government wasn't the Problem ASUU Nigerian Medical Association created it ....They also didn't want to employ many Doctors before Covid ...As soon as the UK US window opened they are not only looking for Doctors but trying to even retain their staffs...
Have you noticed that the beef with Nurses have gone down .... They're now prioritizing them infact ...Nurses are fleeing more because they get to UK and earn almost more than Doctors unlike Nigeria were they keep raising their superiority over the roof even though they might not work like than nurses ......
In abroad it's about work hours not seating in office....

We go soon go back to our traditional medicine because that is where the brain drain is headed .

Dumb analogy. There's no incentive to mk the new doctors stay. For your info, universities are running out of medical personnel to even teach these doctors. My uni had to even tell 300L students to repeat 200l because they were unable to secure qualified personnel to take up visiting lecturer positions to train them. Be there looking at life in 1D
