Did you Notice I mentioned it will give me a bit of headache picking Mikel over Da Bull.

Mikel is an underated... Amokachi had more power and pace in his game. Mikel a bit sluggish especially in comparison- but I think Mikel has the slight edge of been more versatile on the pitch.

Also Mikel at his prime- in the youth championship were he came second to Messi as best player was exceptional. It is this Mikel I rated. Though his role and style of play later changed and became more confusing even to himself.

I think it was later towards the end of his career he reinvented his style of play and became more sure of himself. By then age was catching up with him.

Mikel like I said is undervalued.

I hope it wouldn't sound contradictory though if I say Amokachi remains one of my best super eagles players ever!

He was his own problem. Manchester United wanted him when he was at Fenerbache, he turned them down and went to PSG for money.

Jay Jay of course. But he plays for club that wouldn't win a dime, so winning it got difficult. If he had played for Chelsea or Man Utd when Eto is playing for Barcelona, they would have divided Etoo's wins into two equal halves and Okocha would still have won another one or two extras in addition.

NEYMAR Ronaldinho and JAY JAY share some similarities.Their style is more of showboating and entertaining.Why Ronaldinho standout is because he won biggest trophies at both national and club level.Okocha is just unfortunate he didn't play for a big team, he could have atleast won the CAF award.

Okocha never won major club honours - would have always been difficult for him. Mikel was never exceptional enough as an individual.

So it's sad our most gifted player was not accomplished enough, and our most accomplished player was not gifted enough.

Okocha was never really at the right place at the right time. Imagine if he joined AC Milan, Man U or Arsenal at that time. Or Even Ajax. Decisions and opportunity make a difference.

Whereas, Mikel was. But transformation of Mikel by Mourinho "de-marketed" Mikel somewhat but allowed him to become accomplished trophy-wise. Both were very cautious and probably underestimated their abilities a bit at first.

Ronaldinho played a moving football when he got to barca, he causes more damages and give result, same with neymar at barca and sometimes in PSG but neymar in is last season in PSG was like okocha, always want to dribble every time and end up wasting the ball. But i think if okacha had played other sir Alex or anceloty then, they would have helped in improving his playing style

He would not play for them because he was too wasteful. Okocha will hardly make a good team in recent football, he dribbles too much and end up wasting the ball at the end and still see it as nothing. He is a good and entertaining footballer though

It's unbelievable Jay never won it. He came close though. Mikel came close also.


If all of them were in their prime and are all nominees I had to pick best from this your particular list:

For me it would be a close margin to pick Mikel above Amokachi but I rated him above because he is a more versatile player.

Also Obafemi would be a bit far down the perking order.

Over 80% Africans disagree with Isa Hayatou (the then CAF president) that year.

Hayatou was in a haste to give the award to his country man, Eto - a good player though, but not at okocha's level.

I remember the award ceremony was a big flop, as Eto himself was not in attendance.
