Nowadays, everybody has access to the media (internet, TV etc), so people cannot just swallow any stupid news like we used to do in the past. The whole world followed the SCOAN services live, so people know better.

That's a personal opinión. BBC will not just drop video without hard proof or evidence. BBC's documentary is just a bit of the whole stuff they have.
Remember they have cameras everywhere, they have computers, hard disks, memory cards. There are some videos in the documentary BBC couldn't have gotten without the help of in-house media personnel.
