NAPS condemn the actions of Remo North Local Government Chairman tagged his actions as a theft of intellectual property.

In a press jointly released by stakeholders of NANS, NAPS and the Students Union Government in Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade, they described the Chairman of Remo North Local Government, Prince Dapo Odunsi as someone who reaps from the work of other people people.
Recall that about three (3) years ago, the Gaposa Students Union Government in conjunction with office of the DSA made production over five hundred (500) pieces of uniforms to be worn as uniforms by the bike operators who ply the institution to aid security and of course for easy recognition and take records of all the bike operators in order to tackle any kind of insecurity that might ensue from there, several meetings were held with the local government Chairman for the approval of the scheme which he had always went against with flimsy and baseless excuses.
It is now so disheartening that after several meetings with the CP, he was able to meet our demands and gave the directive that it should be used to tackle any security threat. Seeing this, the Chairman took a very unthinkable step of duplicating the cloth and sold for a whooping sum of Seven thousand naira (#7000) for what union planned on giving out for one thousand naira (#1000).

'GAPOSA STUDENTS UNION PASS VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE ON REMO NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN FOR INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY THEFT'


Gaposa Students Union has taken a stand against the unauthorized replication and modification of their intellectual property. The Union has condemned the unlawful actions of the Remo North Local Government Chairman, who has persistently rejected the uniform made by the school for bike operators. The Chairman has continually provided baseless and unfounded excuses for rejecting the uniform, paving the way for him to duplicate and modify the uniform to suit his personal business interests. The act is a clear case of intellectual property theft, which is unacceptable and discredits the integrity of his office.

Gaposa Students Union has spent over three years creating uniform designs for bike operators within the community. They took the necessary steps to ensure the uniform was unique, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. The uniforms contained the school's intellectual property, and they did so to show pride and promote the school spirit within the community.

The Remo North Local Government Chairman, however, consistently disregarded the school's efforts and refused to approve the uniform designs over the years. He did not provide alternative designs, nor did he provide meaningful reasons for his disapproval. A few months ago, the Chairman finally approved a uniform design for bike operators without the school's intellectual property. To make matters worse, he proceeded to replicate and modify the uniform design containing the school's intellectual property without permission, creating a cheap imitation, which he then implemented as a business venture to enrich himself.

NAPS views such an act by the Remo North Local Government Chairman as dishonest, disingenuous, and deplorable. Such actions are against the spirit of intellectual property rights and fair business practices. The Chairman has taken advantage of the security challenges that Gaposa students face to enrich himself. Rather than provide solutions or assistance, the Chairman has exploited vulnerabilities and discredited the efforts of community members.

Gaposa Students Union, therefore, takes a vote of no confidence against the Remo North Local Government Chairman, vowing to stand against intellectual property theft and illegal activities. We call on all stakeholders to support the Union's vote of no confidence against the Chairman.

Gaposa Students Union remains committed to promoting justice, peace, and security within the community. The Union encourages the use of appropriate channels to secure intellectual property rights and fair business practices, and we urge the Chairman to respect such channels.
