maestroferddi:Calm your emotions. He was only feeding on crumbs. So pls cut him some slack. Conceding that MF to CIV was our undoing. Our game plan was dissected by SA and we were lucky to have escaped. And he deployed the same formation in the finals. Who does that. Even didn't switch tactics immediately we got the goal. Putting the whole team under pressure. |

HeroicMeastro:. Pls how many CHAN has this homegrown won? How many have they even qualified for? E be things. Ordinary CAF club tournaments they will be nowhere to be found. Pls dead that homegrown unless we are talking of players in Kaizer chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Sundowns, Al ahli. Zamalek and Raja. Even Petro Athletico. |

You forgot to mention that the goals were all scored by CR7. I know you are a barcelona fan who wanted Madrid knocked out then. geoworldedu: |

Re: AFCON: Our Tactics Cost Us The Final, We Played Too Deep - Omeruo by geoworldedu: 10:01am On Feb 13 |
sammytovic:And you forgot that CR7 was also in the first leg. Now you have turned this to a Ronaldo-Messi affair. Imagine, bringing Ronaldo into Nigerian stuffs. I don't do my Ronaldo-Messi stuffs that way. I don't even argue about the two great players. They are both very good, but we all know which of them is the GOAT. |
Re: AFCON: Our Tactics Cost Us The Final, We Played Too Deep - Omeruo by comodo: 10:06am On Feb 13 |
lexy2014:. SA found us out. They dissected the tactics and we all saw how it went. And he deployed it again in the finals. You don't play that formation without a good DLP and CIV have one in Seri. They came against us with 3:5:2. And Seri was the controller. Kessie as CM with fofana uptop. We played iwobi as a DLP but it's not his forte because he is not press resistant and doesn't cover spaces. SA saw it and was busy using the pockets of spaces he was leaving. Coach should have reverted to 3:5:2 immediately we scored. Yusuf, Onyeka, Iwobi. That way we would have curbed the attack a bit and match them with bodies in the MF. Then Iwobi would have been closer to Osimhen. But all is history. We played into their hands. 1 Like 1 Share |

I think I won't be opening sport threads on NL again. Many annoy me with harsh critism on our players. Football is a game of you win some and lose some. Even the best teams and players of this world have their bad times. People who can't kick a ball to enter an open goalpost will be talking like world class football coaches. NONSENSE. IT PAINS ME WHAT NIGERIANS DID TO IWOBI. GUY TRIED HIS BEST. NB: Don't quote me if you are not ready for a BAN for the two of us |

comodo: this is the question I asked....what is the difference between the tactics he used in the final and the one he used in all previous games? |
Re: AFCON: Our Tactics Cost Us The Final, We Played Too Deep - Omeruo by ladgentle(m): 10:21am On Feb 13 |
AuthorMan: I don't see anything wrong in what majority of people on this thread have been saying. We got our tactics all wrong against CIV. And if we don't analyze and see what adjustments to make now, it might cost us our chances of qualifying for the world cup when we meet SA June 3 later on this year. |

Quest7777:Nigeria played trash. Nothing close to try in that game. Simply trash. With the way they played, they would have lost to a 9 men team. |
Re: AFCON: Our Tactics Cost Us The Final, We Played Too Deep - Omeruo by Mccullum: 10:26am On Feb 13 |
He's very correct, the match planned by the coach caused the defeat. The same coach brought Nigeria to this final, same coach failed Eagles in the final.. They tried for reaching the final of AFCON. |

CapitalBank:may god bless you for that, ivory coast may have not win the match if nigeria attack them after the 1st goal, the guys were good but we are better but the stupid coach with local football tactics, he made us lose, that man doesn't deserve to be a coach, who knows if the match has been sold, maybe he has been bribed. |

My complaints from day one. You cannot be playing football ball confidently in your 18 yard box or even half side without conceding surprise goals. |

Quest7777:Those guys outplayed us. I can't even believe how they try to neglect the super goal Haller scored. That was a world class goal that even 3 keepers wouldn't save. They are some losses you don't even have to whine about cos it's well deserved. Nigeria played better in the competition but in that final CIV played like their last game ever. 1 Like |

Thank you when his playing 5 at the back tactics was not working why didn't he switch to 442 and bring in more midfielders. He was just really on luck and the script tactics Mourinho gave him.Him no be coach at all. meedoLock: 1 Like |

We can't use 3:5:2 formation because we had no natural wingbacks.aina and bassey are no wing backs and could have been caught out of position. The best was to switch to a 4:4:2. comodo: |

Laurene: You tell me please..... We might have different views on the word "World Class " Because l don't see anything classy about the ivorien team when compare to the Nigerian team. I mean this present squad of ivorien team |
Re: AFCON: Our Tactics Cost Us The Final, We Played Too Deep - Omeruo by Laurene: 11:42am On Feb 13 |
gigabyte13:Besides Osimhen, who else is world-class in Nigeria squad? From the attack to defense? Nicholas Pepe was once 1 player of year and highest goalscorer in Lille when they won the league even though he might have fallen off now. Sebastien Haller is also terrific. He won player of the month severally in Dortmund and also appeared on Bundesliga team of the season. He was much better in Ajax, being the highest goal scorer. Cancer only slowed his pace. Willy Boly was also spectacular in his prime then in Manchester city. Serge Aurier was one of the best wingbacks in Premier league. Franck Kessie? On fire! He was one of the best players in AC Milan Jean Michael Seri? Seko Fofana? Jonathan Bamba? Ismael Diallo? Max Gradel? 1 Like |

The super eagles played like super chickens on Sunday.... due to: 1. Psychological/fear factor. The whole stadium was fully adorned with fans in orange jerseys. 2. Tactics blunder. Clearly the elephants coach did his homework very well by studying the formation of the eagles. He put defenders on the wings and specially on osimhen. We should have switched to a 4_5_1 formation for the final. |

Quest7777: Forget about home advantage for the ivorians, what omeruo is saying is the truth, the tactics employed by the coach was trash. Since from the beginning of the match they refused to come out and play the game, as if they're afraid of their opponent. It was wen they scored the second goal their eyes kon clear, they now decided to come out and play but unfortunately time was against us. |
Re: AFCON: Our Tactics Cost Us The Final, We Played Too Deep - Omeruo by gigabyte13: 12:10pm On Feb 13 |
Laurene: So what is the explanation for the defeat they suffer in the hands of the Guinea with that wide margin 4good goals with their WORLD CLASS PLAYERS AGAINST CLASSLESS GUINEA. Kessie plays in the Saudi league now, l guess He couldn't hold a starter shirt at AC Milan and Barcelona. Pepe couldn't even keep an arsenal shirt Haller and lukman are not mate when it comes to goal scoring going by current form. Haller was the reason Dortmund loss the bundesliga last season against mainz. Aurer is past his prime. He couldn't hold a starter shirt at PSG and Tottenham The NIGERIAN side was just not tactically there on the final. There is/was nothing special in the ivorien Absolutely, nothing special. |
