In a generous display of solidarity, the Rotary Club of Jos Central recently stepped forward to provide the much-needed aid to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp situated in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State. On February 27th, 2024, the club, led by its President, Rotarian Kayode Olushola Fasua, delivered essential supplies including bags of rice, beans, maize, noodles, biscuits, sanitary pads, detergents and toiletries, aiming to alleviate the hardship faced by the camp's inhabitants.

During his address, President Fasua emphasized Rotary's commitment to identifying and addressing humanitarian needs, especially during the month of February, dedicated to peace building and conflict prevention. Motivated by recent attacks in Mangu LGA, the club aimed not only to provide material support but also to promote peace within the community by installing a signage advocating for harmony.

The initiative garnered appreciation from various quarters, with Mangu Local Government TIC Chairman Hon. Marcus Artus, represented by Deputy Chairman Hon. Chinbes Fransham, commending the Rotary Club of Jos Central for its timely intervention. Expressing gratitude, IDP Camp Director Mr. Marcus Enoch Gumwesh highlighted the significant challenges faced by the camp, including feeding and clothing over 1000 displaced individuals.
In response to ongoing needs, President Fasua pleaded for continued support from other organizations within Plateau State and Nigeria, urging them to extend a helping hand to the IDP camps in Mangu and beyond. Additionally, he pledged the club's commitment to revisit Mangu LGA in April for a medical outreach, coinciding with Rotary International's focus on maternal and child health during that month.

Notable attendees at the event included members of the Rotary Club of Jos Central, as well as representatives from the Rotary Club of Calgary North Canada.

The Rotary Club of Jos Central's compassionate gesture underscores the power of collective action in addressing humanitarian crises and fostering peace within communities, setting a commendable example for others to follow.
